How do you make sweet tea?

Being from the South, I should know the answer to this question. But I've never really made a gallon of sweet tea, so not really sure how. Most times, I make tea by the cup. I think it's more than just water, tea and sugar. I've heard that you can use honey or even lemon. Lemon is my favorite. When I was a kid, my mom would mix in sweetened lemon Kool-aid instead of using real lemons. Very frugal idea! I've always wondered if pink lemonade tea would be good. Sounds delicious. Do you have a special way to make sweet tea in your house?

I haven't used sugar in my tea (or coffee) in ages...I've gotten into the habit now of using honey with lemon in my tea. Just wondering...since you're from the south...do you make ""sun" tea? LOL..I do.

I think one of my relatives used to make sun tea! I've never made it. I'm more modern South. But that still means frugal and penny pinching.

with my cup of tea i always have two teaspoons of sugar, I used to thave three but cut it back as i think that is a little too much healthwise...I don't really like tea with lemon juice but i really do love my cuppa...make one feel good...

I love the sweetened lemon Kool-aid idea. I think I will try it. I believe the pink lemonade tea sounds delish also. I don't really make much sweet tea by the gallon. Like you I tend to make tea by the glass.

Pink lemonade is good. I drink it all of the time. I buy the frozen stuff and make it by just adding water. It already has sugar in it, so I don't need to add any. But when I am making tea I put sugar in mine because I just can't drink it without. My husband, ex now, drank his tea without sugar and yet put sugar in his coffee. I have to have sugar in my tea and my coffee. I can't drink it any other way. I have put lemon in my tea on occassion but just when I have a cold. I find it soothes my throat. But I still have to put in sugar, and with the lemon I put in more sugar than without the lemon as I need it to be sweeter. Alrighty then, talk to you later, Your friend, Chris

I think sweet tea is pretty much a Southern American thing as we don't really make it ourselves here. You can buy cans of Iced Tea. I made it myself once, but it needed so much sugar to make it taste like the stuff in the cans that I was horrified! I didn't do it again, perferring to stick my head in the sand about the sugar content and stick with the cans LoL

I don't make sweet tea by the pitcher any more, but when I did I used about 1/4 to 1/3 cup of sugar for a half gallon of tea, added while the tea is still warm. When I sweeten my tea now, for one glass of tea I use 1 packet splenda, a slice of lemon, and a few mint leaves.

Hi Beautyqueen, I usually just put two sweeteners into my cup of tea and if I run out will use sugar instead. Ellie :D
