Do you paint free hand or you usually skech it first? I usually just have something on my mind to paint, but i end up with something else different. Yes i do paint free hand, i like to see what i end up with! So no pencil marks are on my canvas. How do you usually pain? trace with pencil? or just free hand?

When I was painting with oil paints, I would sketch out a picture. When I had to switch to water color, I did it all free hand. That was a while back though. Now, I just do pen or pencil sketches and drawings.

i thought it would be the other way around, i would think you would draw out watercolor and free hand oil since. since oil take so long to dry.

If its something with great detail, I lay out a painting in pencil much as you would a paint by number. It helps me sort of keep what I want where I want it and give me a plan or guide.

i draw with pencil better. so i would rather draw with pencil first, then paint over it. i also draw with these thick crayola-like crayons. it has a good grip on it. when i paint first on the paper, it usually turns out to be a mess.
