So Quick to Judge

I was out to eat with my husband and some friends of ours last week. My friend Dan has a complete tattoo sleeve, and I have three tattoos, one of my foot and one of them is on my ankle, both were visible that day since I had on shorts. A lady was sitting at a large table with her family close to us. I was sitting by my friend Dan, when I heard the lady behind us start talking about tattoos. The whole table was then loudly talking about it. They then started pointing and saying that our ink was offensive and that we junked up our bodies. We ignored them and went on eating, and just left them to talk. I got up to went to the bathroom and walked by the table. The woman called me trashy as I walked by, and said that my body looked like a sketch pad. We left after that, and I didn't say a word to the woman, even though I was peeved. Why are people so quick to judge people with tattoos? There is nothing wrong with it, we are our own individual people, with different likes, stories and lives. My tattoos are not bothering them, or effecting them...I just don't understand why people have to be so lame:(

Hi lisa, Wow, you're so cool and patient..ANyway, I do know if I can handle to just ignore them if I am in your situation but for me it was the best though..People like those needs attention and deserves to be ignored! My husband loves tattoos and it didn't bother me, he has a good heart and great attitude! I know a lot of people need to get a life, they are bored or they just can't stop taking care of people's life!

Thank you! It was so hard to bite my tongue and hold back. I get so sick of people these days, always have to gripe about something!

I would have had a right go at her if I had been there. How dare she think that she can talk to someone like that. Our bodies are our own and we can do what we want with them regardless of what other people think. Most people like that are only like it because it wasn't the done thing in their day. For some people it's that fact that criminals were the only ones that had tattoos a long time ago.

I honestly would of turned around and said something. I give you credit for just ignoring them but honestly still would say something. When they are talking that loud and you can hear them you do have that right to say something. I honestly don't know why some people are against tattoos. It is not affecting them in anyway. And if they don't like that tattoo that you have simply don't look. How hard is that to just turn away and leave it alone. This woman along with the rest of the table was totally out of line and they were making it well known. There are a couple bars/clubs here that do not allow tattoos to show. With my brother having a sleeve tattoo and a few other friends they are not allowed to go in unless it is covered. Not like you are going to go to a bar or club with a long sleeve shirt one when it is hot and with so many people in it so we try to stay away from those bars/clubs. Another thing with my brothers tattoo people don't like it and take offense to it because it is a confederate flag with a wolf coming out from it. There is nothing wrong with it and it is a very nice tattoo. People will always comment on it and I am happy that my brother is outspoken like me and turns around to say if you don't like it don't look at it and if you have that big of a problem then lets settle this once and for all. It is quite sad to see how some people react to them.

I don't ever judge people with tatoos. Although I don't have any and I don't desire any my husband has two and I know people get them for many different reasons. I do however personally feel that kids should be discouraged from getting them. My stepson, and stepdaugher and my 18 yr old daugher each have one or more tatoos and I feel that they may regret them in the future. It seems that kids just want to run out and get tatoos and my husbands ex wife took my stepson when he was 16 to get a tattoo and he hasn't stopped. He is 22 and both of his arms are covered and to me they don't even make sense. They are all random tattoos anywhere from girls initials, stars, barbwire, and half of a heart on his hand (somewhere there is another girl with the other half - when they held hands it made a full heart - they don't see eachother anymore). But I have preached to my kids 2 things - people will judge you when you go for a job or meet your friends parents and tattoos are for life. Will you regret them? I just wish they would of waited longer until they knew what they wanted and knew where they wanted to put them. My stepdaughter had her grandmothers name put on the back of her neck this past winter. This summer she just realized that she doesn't like it when she puts her hair up everyone sees the name and askes her about it. Now she regrets it and should of had it put somewhere else that people couldn't see. So to answer your question - it is terrible that people judge and unfortunate that some people are rude enough to express their personal opinions out loud - but people do and you have to be prepared for it.

Oh, wow, that was so rude of them but, i think you did the right thing by just leaving because it show that you have class by not being confrontational and im a firm believer in the old saying that if you dont have anything nice to say dont say anything at all, i agree that some people are far to judge mental live and let live is what i always say personaly i like tattos im thinking about getting one my self lol.

If I was in your position, I would have politely asked the woman in question what it was about the ink that offended her? Chances are, there wasn't a valid reason. I find people like that aren't so much offended but more intimidated by the whole stigma that tattoos have represented for such a long time. Obviously, time are a changing but there will always be the small minority of people who will never understand the artistic value of body modification. A small anotation intended for the religious of you out there that believe that when you get tattooed you are ruining the bodies that god has given to us, Was man not created in the image of God? and if that is the case and man is, then isn't everything that man then creates an indirect action of god... including body art? Sorry just a little rant regarding a convo I had today with a preacher!

Personally I don't care for tattoos but at the same time it is your body and you can do what you want to it. I would never judge a person by their body decorations. The lady should have kept her mouth shut. None of us are prefect so shouldn't judge others by their appearence. she was way out of line.

I think I would have had to say something, your much more nicer then I. I would have had to say something like, " I might have a tattoo but you are rude " or "Do you have something you would like to say to me?" That is just so rude, I cant even believe people would act like that. I have one on my left arm right above the wrist of a kissing moon and sun and my hubbys name in a ribbon under it and I love it and since it is my body I dont think there is much to discuss. My mom hates tats and she doesnt even say anything about it. Anyways you are much more nicer.... LOL

You are better than I am, because I would have had to say something...lol. Unfortunately, there are a lot of people in this world that have nothing better to do than to judge others. I believe they are so miserable in their own lives that they have to make it about someone else in order to cope with their own miserable selves.

Wow, I can't believe you were able to hold your tongue! I wouldn't have been able to. It's better to be a sketch pad than to be a loud obnoxious rude ill mannered ignorant b$%#$. I dont' think they are offensive, as a matter of fact some are downright pretty. I'll usually start up a converation with someone who has one. Don't let one idiot ruin your future dining experiences!

Those who are unhappy with their own lives will always try to pass judgment on others to make themselves feel better. I only have 1 tattoo right now and the reactions I got, oh it's sickening! Often they feel like jerks when I say that I got it in honor of a family member. People are going to judge, they are going to waste their lives judging other people, don't let them get to you, after all, you enjoy your body art while they seem to not enjoy their lives if all they use their time for is judging those they do not know.

Good day... That's the typical example of how people literally judge other people on the outside rather than what's inside. I mean this how slow we develop our sense of humanity in contrast on how fast we develop our technology. And that is quite dangerous. I know it was just simple case of skin tattoos but that's just it if we can't deal with tattoos, how can we deal with other bigger and more sensible issues? I just hope that the majority of us are more mature and sensible.

Geez, people are truly ridiculous. If some lady said that to me... I would have asked her if she wanted to have a discussion about it outside!! And i'm not a violent person, but seriously... people need to respect one another. It's probably a really good thing though that you did stay quiet, and didn't even acknowledge her presence. Because that's those people deserve... To talk back would give them the satisfaction of knowing they got to you.
