Do you have the same experience? You find an interesting book and buy it home but pack it and seldom read it in spite of promising yourself read it soon. And when you borrow a book you have an impulse to finish reading it as soon as possible. I am just behave this way and I hesitate when find a good book in a bookstore. What about you? borrow or buy?

hey, lixiaos,i really like to purchase books at big or small bookstores,i like to buy many different english magazines to my own and read whenever i feel like . yeah, love buying books often leads me to the trouble of purchasing on impulse, just take a lot of books at home and rarely read them, like the thick "red mansion"i bought last winter vacation,it is just the same as it was bought,no turning off pages, totally a new edition lying in my bookshelf.but i can say two-thirds books are read through and i even can recite many famous sentences picked from those books.books are really my best friends, they lead me to the beautiful summit of silence and solitude .in comparison with borrowing books,i prefer to buy my own books.because i can note down whatever i want to mark in the books and if i want to continue it next time,i also can fold its page corner at will.i think set down notes in a book is really an action full of fulfillment because i consider myself a part of that book,i give feedback after reading and i have a conversation with the author by noting my own thoughts.

I will borrow the books as I really cannot afford to buy them all of the time, the cost of hardback books has risen, and yes you may get the paperback editions, but they are by no means as good as the hard backs,so im a borrower .Our local library is good, and for a few pence you may reserve a book, and as soon as it is returned they will put it by for you.

that is how it is here in sweden, too. one can have a book reserved for you. but i am not a borrower. perhaps, i just don't like going to the library and borrowing books with a limited time. i do buy books but only those which i know i can afford.

Whether I buy a book or borrow it the result is the same. It gets the upper place in my pile of "books to be read". I think that the computer, myLot, TV and newspapers are responsible for this. Not me, of course, that I'm a victim of this information age.:)

I actually buy most of my book, but then again if I don't read it it is because I am going to kepe it until I finish the one that I am presently reading and won't have a shortage of books when I am ready to sit and read. If I borow a book, it gets a priority first reading because I know I have to return it, unliek my own books which I cna read at my own leisurely pace.

I usually buy my books at garage sales and usually get them for about 50 cents each. Or I go to the second hand book store and buy used for about $1.00. If I take in three used books they will give me one free one. So when people want to give me their used books and even if I don;t like the type of book it is, and I won't be reading it, I still take them from the person and I take them to the used book store and get some free ones that I do like and will read. I have a friend that goes through a lot of books. She seems to get them from a lot of other people and then after she reads them she hands them down to me. So I then keep the ones I will read and trade in the ones I won't ever be reading as they are of no interest to me. Alrighty then, talk to you later my friend, Your friend Chris

I would use the Library and borrow the books if at all possible. Sometimes, this is not possible. The incentive to finish and return the book can help motivate you.

i am a kind of person who will read the book later when i have enough time or the interest to do so. if i borrow a book, i might not be able to return it back in time as promised. so, i will rather buy a book so i can read in whenever i want to without stress and time limit.

I behave the same way you do. When I borrow a book, I read it as quick as I can. When I buy a book I tell myself that I'll read it ASAP, but low and behold I often pack it somewhere and forget about it until I happen to stumble across it and am not reading anything else. LOL

For me, it is usually borrowing. I read quite a lot and it is impractical to buy everything I want to read. I don't print money and I don't have unlimited space to store the books. When you borrow books, there is a deadline by which you must return them. So I will always try to finish the books before that deadline, or I would renew it once (I can only renew once) and try to finish before the second deadline. I would usually try to estimate how many books I can finish within 3 weeks (which is the borrowing period for libraries here). If it is a book I bought, likely I really want to read it or I need to read it - so I would quite definitely finish it ultimately. How long it takes doesn't matter that much since the book is mine and I don't need to return it.

I'd rather borrow it from the library or from a friend then get my own copy. I like knowing about the plot and the general story, but I don't read books more than once unless I'm really really bored. So for me, buying is just a waste of money. I bought Harry Potter though because I couldn't borrow a copy. And I sometimes buy books on sale. Nowadays I prefer downloading ebooks. Not only is it free, it's also convenient as well.

I'm slowly building an educational library of books about World War II, American History, and other history related subjects as well as science related books, technology(including computers), and books about the social sciences and current issues. I definitely prefer to buy them, so that I can refer to them over and over when necessary.

Just break down and read it then get it back to the owner. I read all the time and if I don't like the first chapter I don't read it, reading for me is pleasure so I don't struggle. I also go to the library and don't borrow from friends because it puts stress on me to return the book promptly and then if I didn't like it I have to defend my positon. I don't buy anything except reference books because I just have run out of storage. That's what I do. LOL

You probably feel this way because it has a due date on it so it makes you feel like you need to finish it faster, you know? I do both and while I always read what I borrow/buy the borrow always ends up getting read first because I know I'm going to have to return it and it will take forever to get it back to borrow again. I do buy a few as well though because our libraby has a really small collection and it gets to be rather annonying. Sometimes, I'll borrow a book and fall in love with it so much that I go out and buy it right away too, like the Twilight saga :)

I prefer to buying the book for later use if I found the book that interested me. I borrow the book for several days first. If I like the book, I will buy it.

I am more of a buyer than a borrower, and it really takes time for me to finish a single book, I only read during free hours. Though sometimes, I do borrow some books.

Hi, it's hard to borrow a book here - our libraries are simply hopeless! So I'd buy most of my books. Moreover most of my friends do not enjoy reading - the only person I can borrow books from, is my brother. And as you know, you don't have to hurry !

Hi friend. I do both. When I borrow a book and I liked it, I buy my own copy. But most of the time I buy books. I read the back portion of the book for reviews. Before I buy books, I also ask peers.

it is better to buy one because at least you are sure its yours and you can have it for a long time.
