I am in the process of copying all my files to CD so I can do a reformat on my computer. Something is making it run super slow and I just can't handle it anymore. lol I think it is the AVG anti virus I installed, but am not sure. Could be something attached itself to my computer and I don't know it. lol I found my spyware program I use to use, so after the reformat, I will be installing that. It is Xoft. I have it on CD, but I had misplaced it and recently found the CD. YAY! lol Ok well, just wanted to let my friends know if I am not on this weekend, that's why or my hubby took over the computer which is a possibility too. lol Have a great Friday and weekend! ~Icy~

It could very well be AVG. I use to use it a while back, but come to find out the hard way, I had a virus and AVG wasn't picking it up. I would recommend after the reformat, try Avast. I have used it for about 2 years now. It was recommended from my IT Division where I work and I am very satisfied with it. Good luck!

Slowing down of PC is one of the signs of a spyware / virus infection. But in some cases, it's not always the factor. Anti-virus can also slow down computers especially when it's set to protect you real-time or when it's continually running in the background. My tips: 1.) Update your anti-virus and anti-spyware softwares. 2.) Restart your computer in a safe-mode. 3.) Run a full-scan of your computer using your anti-virus / anti-spyware program. 4.) If they haven't detected any infection, then shutdown your anti-virus / anti-spyware programs and then try to transfer your files again. Hope it'll work.

Hi icy Someone else told me there computer is on go slow since they got the AVG anti virus so you are not alone...also I do know that certain anti virus's can make you computer go slower more than others..so in your case it wouldn't surprise me if it is the AVG that has done that to your computer..will look forward to you coming back online...if you cant then have a good weekend!! bright blessings littleowl

i think you already figured it out. i used to run AVG on my computer.....it's a great anti-virus but it sucks up a lot of memory and slows your system down. that's why i switched to Avira AntiVir. http://www.free-av.de/en/index.html it works great and doesn't use up as much computer resources.

Don't rush to reformat! You could have a virus that AVG isn't seeing or it could be AVG itself so you need to take some steps to be sure. Is AVG set to do a complete scan at boot up? That's the best time to spot viruses. If not, reset it and reboot the computer. If you're still having the problem, uninstall AVG and see if your pc runs better and, if not, try another anti-virus program. I had a problem virus once which Norton was able to find it after I had tried a couple of other decent programs. I'm not sure what you mean by reformatting but you do know that a complete reformat wipes out all of your programs and the operating system along with the files, right? Good luck!
