I really want to know how to stop smoking, some say its quite addicting because of its content. I just don't know why people do smoke. In my country even kids ranging from 12 starts to smoke. I think the government should do something about it but it seems their only concern is to gain from the tax those tobacco companies pays. Well enough with that, what I really want to know is what is the best and the fastest way to stop smoking? My boyfriend smokes a lot each day and I want him to stop it because of the harmful effects he will acquire from smoking.

i've been smoking for 4 years now. i started during a time in my life when i was having some emotional/relationship problems. and it just took off from there. i keep telling myself i want to quit. my girlfriend hates that i smoke. so do my parents. but almost all of my friends smoke. still, the fact that i can die or it could seriously affect my health makes me think its really not worth it. i know there are a lot products out there like nicoteen gum, patch, pills that can help. but this is an addiction and to break free i think you need willpower. a lot of willpower. and you need to be surrounded by people who will help you with the decision you have made. your boyfriend will quit only when he is ready to - i don't think you can force it on him, but when he makes the decision i think the biggest help will be your support.

So are you doing something about it? About your addictness in smoking? If its will power I don't think he has it in him to stop, so I think we'll just rely on the artificial stuffs.

Smoking is a form of adiction that is highly hazardous for health. No body can force an addicted smoker to quit. You have to make a personal commitment to quit it.It is imperative to understand what you use smoking for and what kind of satisfaction you get out of smoking. As regards quitting, physical exercise, drinking, dining and participating in social activities may serve to distract your mind and change your smoking behaviour,in due course of time.A smoker is to understand his/her smoking behaviour in the context of his/her life style and adopt a suitable approach for himself/herself. Have a nice day !!

I started smoking at a very young age, and by the time I was 18-19 I was smoking a pack or so a day.. I quit when I found out I was pregnant, and for me all it took was a lollipop... They say smoking is just in your head, and it is mainly an oral fixation, so for me lollipops for the best way... My husband is having a harder time quiting but I think its because he doesn't want to...Good luck with your boyfriend. I'm sure he will get through it!

that's true. if you have the right reasons and the willingness to drive you to stop smoking, you can stop smoking at once. you don't need anyone to tell you to get rid of that habit at all. remember, if you want to do something, you can do it if you will just try to.

Maybe I'll just trick him and tell him I am pregnant so that he'll stop smoking for the baby's sake. Hmmm.. What do you think? Is that a nice idea.

Well I just hope this discussion will also help you find ways and the means to stop smoking. From what I read here, you must have that conviction and the will power to do so. It is within you to stop and say to yourself that you need to do this for nobody else but yourself. Thanks fro being so honest and open.

Well, my dad is a heavy smoker before, he was a scenario writer back then so I think maybe smoking might help him inspired sometimes. He was smoking as long as his eyes open. One day he decided to quick smoking, and believe it or not, since that day he never smoke again just for once! I think it's the matter of how bad you've wanted to stop, and how strong you let it drives you to stop... Cheers,

Commit a crime and go to county jail. Just kidding!(but, that is a way as you are not allowed to smoke there!) But seriously, I am a smoker myself and I know how hard it can be.I tried to stop and well, actually did a few times, unfortunatly the longest I went was a week though. It was hard for me because at the time the 3 other people I lived with smoked and they didnt stop. They even continued to light up in front of me and my cravings got the best of me. But, my aunt was a heavy smoker. She tried so many things to quit, the patches, and all that. But, finally she found something. It was a prescription called Zyban. Zyban was actually first known as the medication Wellbutrin, but the people that were taking it had reported to their doctors that they had lost urges to smoke so they remarketed it with the name Zyban. You should have him chack into this.It really worked, and the good thing about ti she said was that it wasnt like a cold turkey thing, she continued to smoke, just less and less. Then just lost the craving to smoke. This is really true. So, I would tell him to give it a try, maybe it will work for him as well.If he goes to a doctor I am sure that they can give him some more ideas too. Good luck!

I dont think this will be an easy thing to do unless he wants to quit, anyways there are heaps of ways to quit smoking. some people chew nicotine gum or use nicotine patches to help with the cravings there are also injections and perscription medications available at the doctors to help with the withdrawls. Some people can just stop and never look back again, the point is it is different for everyone, maybe suggest phoning the quitline they will send him information and offer advice of other methods used to help quit smoking.

I quit smoking over three years ago. The main thing is you have to really, really want to quit. The other things that helped me was having others who had quit before me give me support and the support of my family when I was cranky really helped as well. Here is an article I have written that goes into more detail about how I quit. http://www.healthmad.com/Addiction/I-Want-to-Help-You-Quit-Smoking.111317/1 I hope that it helps the ones that read it to stop smoking. It takes a lot of determination to quit and it is just as hard to quit as any addiction is in my opinion. Best of luck to all those that want to quit.
