Well they usually take a hot shower to relax the muscles. If you swim in pool water there is all kinds of chemicals and you should really get the chemicals off your body. I wouldnt want to walk around smelling like chlorine.

In a public pool (and probably the olympic pools), the chlorine levels probably are pretty high. In a home pool however, generally the chlorine levels won't be much higher than the levels in tap water.

to cleanse the body i guess? because the pool is filled with chlorine and other chemicals which is itchy and irritating to the skin :D

According to an article I read on Yahoo about the divers showering off after, it's because the pool water temperature and the air temperature is different. The pool was warmer than the air for diving at least, so to keep their muscles from tensing up they'd go into the showers and then get in a hot tub.

If you have realy bolond hair and you dont rinse the clorien out of it, your hair will turn green. Plus you need to get all the chemicals off your body. I dont think the chemicals will harm you any but you will smell like clorien all day. LOL

I think it is necessary to take shower before and after getting into the pool because skin may be affected by the chlorinated and bleached water of the pool(pool water are normally chlorinated and bleached to have a bacteria free condition).. It also avoids skin to getting black..

Being a swimmer, I know of many reasons why swimmers have to was after. Some even wash before. One of the reasons is the pools that are used for competitions and practices are full of chemicals and bacteria. The chlorine doesn't kill everything that's in the pool. The chlorine is also horrible on skin, hair, nails, etc. They wash in order to be clean again. those who choose to wash before hand are doing it that way it lessens the amount of dirt that gets into the pool off of them.:)

Most pools have a tremendous amount of chlorine in the water in order to sanitize and clean the water at all times. That stuff is quite aggressive and can be damaging to your skin and bathing suit. That's why most people showere off. Some people also feel that after they swam in the pool with several other people, they have their dirt on them. They take a shower to feel clean. In competitions, swimmers take a shower in order to allow the muscles to relax.

I think swimming is kind of sport and you know that we always swim with another people in one pond. Everyone feel that they had do a sport and the water of pond is quite dirty because it was swim by many people. So they need to clean up their body. I think that the shower is have another benefit like to relax and get our body fresh again.

Its both. They do it for fun and because the water tempature is differnet then the water in the pool area so there muscles can get cramped up:)
