Crafts and my role exchange with my hubby

bobby's craft - the first cross stitch bobby has finished

I am not going to start a discussion and what are women supposed to do as opposed to men. But generally it is the women who do crafts such as stitching and it is the men who, hmm, look for work for the woman to have her stuff framed and all. I am not saying that should always be the case as a lot of women who do their crafts also work. So, here's my story. I love crafts but have this tendency to stop doing what I have been doing in favor of something else. For example, I started this cross stitch piece in January 2005 but the next month got crazy into badminton and stopped the stitching. I picked up where I left off in August 2007 when I transferred in my hometown to be with me husband. All went well and I thought that I'd finish the craft but my laptop came and I got an online job and well the stitching is back in the shelf. My husband, on the other hand, didn't like me doing stitching because he wanted to go cycling or walking or to picnics which I really am too lazy to do;O) Then he took up cross stitch just so he can sit beside me while I do my craft (and this is the time when I was crazy with stitching and that was around August last year). Miraculously he has finished the sailboat with the dolphins about three months ago. He bought a new set of cross stitch and is now happily stitching while I'm here typing the night away. Is this role reversal? Definitely.

I am the same way. I start a project but then something else comes up. and then something else and so on. I must say I have a basement full of yarn, crafts, scrapbooking, sewing and many more hobbies. I need to focus on one thing and finish it. I must say though I was crocheting a blanket and had to make two within a week and so I taught my hubby and he helped me.

Wow, that is good. But I wonder if your husband continued with the crochet after you finished the blanket

cool story! although you sound a lot like me! i have about 20 projects on the go currently and my hubby always rolls my eyes when i start another one! but i dont think he would start x stitching just to be with me...he watches tv while i crochet, knit or cut paper (for cards/scrapbooking).

I only got one big one unfinished and two little ones less than a ruler in width and height so I don't count them

There's a man at my mom's place that is well know for his needlepointing. Sadly his eyesight has gotten to where he can't do it any more. I also went to a sale where the woman was selling just about everything, including some pillow covers her husband crocheted. She said that while they were stationed in Iceland he meet some guys that got together and knitted. He went and got his crocheting and joined them! I remember hearing back in the 70's or 80's that there were a bunch of pro-football players who needlepointed for relaxation. So, your husband is in good company!

That's good to hear. I do know that there are lots of guys who do that but here in my country you'll maybe find about 1 for every 1 million ;O)

Ah...such a cute story! Well it can be considered role reversal but alot of men are very good at doing crafts.....my ex's brother had his hand injured and was advised to start knitting..well the sweaters that he learned to knit were absolutely beautiful...another friend start counted cross stitch too....he has framed in his apartment the Children of Diego...and they are perfectly done and beautiful. So if a man is good at it...and it looks like your husband does a wonderful job the so be it! Good for him!

Cobalt Blue Sea Glass Necklace - This pendant/necklace wasn't getting very many views when it was in my Etsy shop. So my hubby tok it to the beach at the end of November and captured this image (it was about 30 degrees and very windy)
It sold less than 2 weeks later, most likely because of the new images.
There's nothing wrong with that. My s/o supports all my craftiness. He finds supply companies for me, helps me with my magnet creations and some of my polymer items. He's the one responsible for drilling the holes for my sea glass creations. He hasn't shown any aptitude for making jewelry (but he knows exactly what I'm looking for with sea glass and much of the sea glass I use, is found by him) I suspect he would help out with knitting if I asked him to. In the fall when it gets a bit colder, I find knitting to be very relaxing, so I haven't had the need to ask...maybe this yr if the shows get a bit hectic. Rather than role reversal, I consider us a team and I wouldn't be nearly as successful selling my creations without his support.

It's good then. I really can't consider us as a team because we don't do the craft together anymore And I sleep or work when he's doing the craft. The new is much better than the one I posted, though.

First of all I think it's great that your husband is trying to find interests that you can do together. He found something that you both can enjoy...unfortunately he might be enjoying it a ilttle more than you. I believe that now-a-days people are going to do what makes them happy whether or not it's the norm of what is accepted. As for you...you seem to enjoy trying new things. If you go from one thing to another, you are just exploring. If these are things you do so that you have stress-relievers, then that's great. However, if it bothers you that you might not always be finishing your projects...then that is something that you need to work on.

It doesn't really bother me because I didn't see myself as a crafty person. I guess I will just catch up with him when he's halfway through since his new pattern is large and the one I left was almost done

I think that's great! It's pretty neat that he's finished up a project of yours and enjoyed it enough to keep going. My guy is a prolific crocheter (I knit, but can't crochet for anything), so we've got tons of afghans around that he's made. My little brother also comes over occasionally to use my sewing machine to make pillows or couch covers, so I've got a lot of crafty men in my life. I love it!

No, he actually started that project from scratch;O) Oh, your husband's just like mine;O) I can't say the same for the other guys here, though;O)
