Just Why Is It??? The Ironies Of Life

It was a beautiful day today and while I didn't have anything special to do thought I would go to this one shopping area near me. As many of my friends will remember, I thankfully came into some extra money which helped me get a nice new bed/mattress. Well I decided while I have extra green stuff to get a good pair of shoes for a change instead of the usual $10 crap from Payless. So in this shopping area there is a Footlocker with the Nikes, Addidas, Puma, you name it...the expensive running shoes...BUT.. Just why is it when you finally DO have money to burn you don't see shat? Never having thought of getting Nikes since they're so darn expensive I couldn't believe how stiff they felt....I mean yikes they felt like cement blocks on my feet. I just didn't like anything, so didn't buy any shoes...maybe I'll see something elsewhere but I was disappointed. So not to have made the day a total waste, I went to the Petland near there and stocked up on Fancy Feast which sells cheaper than in the supermarket, and got a lot of food for my two deprived kitties (yeah, sure) Do you find this though? When you have extra money to burn to maybe get something really nice for yourself that you otherwise wouldn't get, you just don't see anything you like, then of course, when you DON'T have money you see a million things you'd like to buy?

That's hilarious. I was just thinking the same thing not too long ago. My friends and I have concluded it's simply because you've actually got the money to spend but there's a part of you that really wants to hang onto it. So maybe subconsciencely you "can't find anything you like". It happens to me everytime I go out "window shopping". I fall in love with dozens of things but once I have that $$$ in my pocket..somehow the objects look different or maybe in the back of my mind I feel like I can find something just a little bit better. It's hopeless (lol).

I also think about the amount of time it took me to earn the money. Was it worth it? Good shoes are definitely a good investment, cause if your feet are not comfortable you hurt all over.

You're right GardenGerty...good shoes are an investment. I think that's why I often do have foot problems....I had gotten cheapie shoes. But now when I have the money to really get good ones I just plain don't see anything I liked. I really don't window shop..I've never been big on shopping anyway unless I really desperately need something and shoes are on that list there..oh well, try again later in the week

As the French say "C'est la vie" or that's life. Well life is really like that I remember when I was shopping for some clothes. I spent a lot of time in my favorite shop trying to find a good shirt then I went to other shops and there I bought a lot better and cheaper clothes. Too bad though I've spent some of my money on more expensive shirts.

I don't mind buying cheaper shirts or blouses, things like that, but I've been having real bad experiences and foot problems by buying cheap shoes.

LMAO yes I know exactly what you mean! Usually this comes in the way of clothes though for me. When I go to buy some 'cause we need them it's so hard to find something that I like. But if we don't have the money -- I see all kinds of things I like. I'm not big on Nike shoes at all but my hubby swears by them. I do love Converse though...though not really their running shoes. I tend to buy and like cheaper shoes LOL.

I just really wasn't impressed by the Nikes. I wound up hunting around on-line and found great looking shoes at the Easy Spirit website...

I have definitely noticed that sort of thing. I have noticed that whenever I'm in the market for something new that I never can find exactly what I want. For example, I was wanting a new pair of slip on shoes and wasn't too serious a few days ago about buying a pair of really comfortable nice looking shoes that I found at Walmart. I wanted them but I put them back on the shelf cause I thought that I'd find something else. Well I decided that I was really in the mood for a nice pair of slip on shoes and we went back to Walmart today to find them again. Well, they were all gone. We couldn't find any of them anywhere. So because I didn't feel like spending that amount of money on those shoes the other day, I missed out on them. I don't think I'll get lucky and find another pair like those again.

Aww... sorry to hear about your "luck"---maybe they took them off the shelves to bring in the new fall shoes in...That can be the problem...one debates, and debates what to get....thinking maybe one might see something better, holds off, then decide to get the shoes only to find them gone...waaahhhhh

Absolutely. Even going back to the same places online or to the actual stores you saw the things you wanted or needed - once you have money - they're gone! I'm glad you got some treats for you "poor deprived" kitties! I bet you love spoiling them!

Hi pye, Yes that happens to me as well, I went to this beautiful crystal shop in the town and I saw a this beautiful amber neclace but when I looked at the price I just couldn't afford it, so when I had some money my sister owed me I went along to buy my necklace but lo and behold it has gone so I just kicked myself and thought maybe it was not meant for me afterall. That's the real kicker isn't it...you see something but don't have the money for it at the time, then when you do...it's been sold Funny you mention amber...I still have antique amber beads of my great-grandmother's..I have a few of them on a necklace I made myself

i can understand what you are saying... it happens to me couple of times as well... i have extra money by working overtime and i want to get something nice for myself... but i just couldn't find anything that i want or like... so at the end, i just save the money for other purposes or use it to treat myself with a nice food in a restaurant... good luck... hopefully you can find something nice to spend the money on yourself... take care and have a nice day...

I just went out and bought new Avias. They look mostly like my old, worn out ones, but like you said, they are stiff. Not nearly so comfortable. There is a model of Reeboks that I usually get, one black pair and one white pair, that are really light weight and flexible. They look like a leather version of an old fashioned sneaker. I go to Famous Footwear. They always have great prices, sometimes it is last years model so the trim is a different color, but who cares. I wish I had gotten the Reeboks this time. I have to be on my feet a lot for work, and my feet need help.

I'm going to check right now to see if Famous Footwear has a website and check the Reeboks..yeah, I wouldn't care if the shoes are last years "models" as long as they are comfortable. I was hunting at the Easy Spirit website and kind of saw something there...but still want to check around.

Oh and how do you like those sneakers/running shoes for kids that have their own built in rollers so they don't have to walk, but glide? LOL I wound up getting Easy Spirit shoes directly from their website..they were ten dollars less, than on another website for the same thing

Oh yes and it's the very reason I don't like to shop! If I don't have the money than why torture myself with window shopping? lol Heck, I don't like shopping EVEN if I had the money! lol But when I do have it and need something in particular such as shoes, I have a hard time finding the "one" I'd like. lol How are you sleeping now with your new bed? I bet A LOT better!! lol I'm so happy for you Pye!!

It's ironic...I opted to get my shoes on-line..I finally settled on a pair of Easy Spirit shoes and got them directly from their website and they were ten dollars LESS than at another website for the exact same thing...can you believe that...I already have them too as they were delivered fast to me..they're too hot to wear now since they are walking/running shoes and I prefer wearing sandals in the hot/warm weather...but I tried them on and they are FANTASTIC. Oh I LOVE my new bed...LOL..so do my kitties...hehee

I only go to stores when I needed something to buy. And it is really frustrating if you see nothing you needed. The more when you have the extra money, want something really nice thing for you, & found it none.

I sometimes think it's better to shop on-line....you have more choices, right, and usually can find more of what you want then
• United States
18 Aug 08
There's another phenomenon that goes with that one. When you've seen exactly what you want, but you didn't grab it right then, if you go back the next day, it won't be there anymore. In a big mall, sometimes it is there, but you went to so many stores, you look in the wrong ones.

That actually happened when I was "bed hunting" It took me a long time to get the money business settled...it was in relation to an IRS check refund but took three months to get things settled. In the meantime I had already started hunting around for a new bed for myself...found a definite one...well when I finally got the check business settled and now had the means to get it, they no longer had that model...I had to get something completely different...but who knows Maybe better??

Especially with the shoes, oh and New Balance oh so worse, its all the hype they get from the foot doctors I guess but yea, Nike's always look so good in the window and its like 'Do I want to wear THIS' so I walk away with head hung low--thankfully, Im not that clueless anymore after starting school and getting a the leftover change from financial aid I've been able to try more stuff and I found that Saucony is my shoe, man, do I love my Saucony's. Yea, unfortunately, Addidas is such a cool name but as a show, unless your wearing cleats (which i love), useless and Puma's I do not even know what to call them, love Puma apparel but their shoes are too designer, like walking on cardboard. I know little kitties are loving ya.

I know the part about when you don't have money then you see a millin things to buy. But yes I have had this happen to me before too. My mother gave me money to buy a really nice dress for daughters confirmation and then do you suppose that we could even find dresses?? There were only about 4 that we found all day and they were not the type for a confirmation. Made me mad. Here I had the money (more than what I was going to spend) and couldn't even find dresses. I guess this is life.

Hehe..no I really don't have problems parting with extra money...but I do get fussy since when I do have the money it's like I'm investing in something of quality....like when I recently got my new bed and mattress...as that does have to last me a lonnnnggg time.

There must be something wrong with me, I was told that all women like to shop BUT I hate shopping. It seems to me the things I want are always too big or too little or the ones I want are in some strange color that looks gross on me. As for shoes I used to have hundreds of pairs of them but now I only have about 5 or 6 but I wear Nike tennis shoes most of the time. I don't understand you saying they are stiff and uncomfortable. Mine are soft and I love wearing them. Maybe you should try their soft leather walking shoe. Anyway when I do have extra money I end up giving it as presents to other people or to charity. Or for plane fare to visit distant relatives.

I actually found a great pair of easy spirit shoes....ON-LINE...I already have them and they fit like a dream...Nope..just didn't care for any of the Nikes

Of course it is always that way! When you're not looking for something and when you have don't money to burn that's the times you find everything you want but can't have. It never fails. I know when I set out to get something that I need I can never find it. When I go shopping with a purpose, I almost never end up with what I started out for, but end up with lots of other stuff that I probably don't really need.

I guess I'm a more cautious shopper..and fussy to boot...I don't like to settle for just anything and things I really don't need...THOUGH I might be tempted. Like recently I would look at different things and think, gee, I'd like to get that...BUT then my logic runs and says...do I REALLY need it..so of course that voice says a resounding NO....LOL

It always happens to me as well. When I have money, which is not very often, I cannot find anything that I like or will fit me. When I have no money I always see the thing that I have been looking for. It seems to be some sort of law.
