Do you mean DDT or DEET? DDT remains problematic, but DEET is back on the market, because they've found it's the only really effective insect repellant in high-insect areas.

Well, DDT was banned, but it has been quite some time ago. I think diazanon came under fire, but as far as I know it hasn't been banned. The last I heard our city crew was still using it for the playa lakes and in the parks around here.
