You cannot download Excel for free, but you can download Excel Viewer from Microsoft itself. Excel Viewer and Word Viewer will enable you to open and view Excel or Word files on your computer, but you will not be able to create or edit them. So if someone has sent you such a file then you can at least read what they have sent.

A legal free program which is just like word and excel is OpenOffice. You can download it at http://openoffice.org
