Gawd will this ever stop I wonder. I have to get more jars for all the pickles I am making. I picked about 25 or so pickles this afternoon. I have them sliced and soaking in a brine ice water solution till the morning. Got to get the jars tomorrow at the latest. Do you ever run out of things in the middle of pickling? Do you wait till the next day or rush right out for the itmes? HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

It all depends on what the item is. Of course you have no control of how many pickles your plants are producing, so you cannot plan ahead. However, the things I have decided to bake can wait until I have everything. Actually, I do have everything now, so I made the Boston Brown Bread in the crockpot yesterday. It is hard to get hubby to eat unless I am home. I schedules do not always match. This is something he really loves, so he will remember to eat it, even if I am not home. He would eat your pickles, too. I guess if I were canning or pickling and ran out of jars I would do as much as I could, just like you did. The cold brine water soak should not hurt a bit. Have fun with your pickles.

I do have control. I can always throw some away. HAHAHAHA!!! I thought I had a couple jars left over but nope. I asked my neighbors and they still have pickles left in them so I wait. But I rearranged the pickles in my jars in my fridhge making room in the jars. I have 3 jars available so I can make a few tonight then a couple tomorrow as well. Some recipes call for sokaing in ice water brine overnight so I am good to go. Thanks bunches. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Oh yes that has happened to me. I bought a big box of green tomatoes at the farmers market awhile back and I had to make two trips to get more jars to handle the green tomato relish, rag pickles and other green tomato stuff we canned. Then we some of the green tomatoes turned red before we used them I had to go get more jars to can the red tomatoes!!

I haven't done pickles this year or for many years back but I ran out of salt the other day and needed some for the cabbage I froze yesterday which I was going to do Friday but was out of salt. First thing yesterday morning I was off to the store - nice thing was there was next to no one else there :) Obviously I wait till the next day :) I do prefer shopping in the mornings when the store first opens and not so many people around :)

hi grandpa bob I am back finally. its been many many years since I helped my mom make pickles and we did some the same way you are with them sliced and in a brine ice water solution too. those were the best pickles I have ever eaten. The closest I can get now days is one of Vlasics brand pickles, bread and butter 'pickles. they are pretty good for store bought.I remember my mom telling me always have all the things you need to make your pickles on hand before you start. As my dad was the small town doctor and mom was left alone on the farm with no way to get supplies I guess she did have her point. lol.
