Do You Like Fantasy?

I've always been intrigued by works of fantasy from early in my childhood. I suppose it is rooted in the fairy tales I grew up reading. Although the types of fantasy have changed somewhat since then, I still love the genre. You could say it goes against my down-to-earth, practical earthy Taurus nature, but I discovered long ago that I am a contrast in almost every way. There are several writers of fantasy fiction that I read on a regular basis. These include Sherrilyn Kenyon, Christine Feehan, Stephen King, and Lora Leigh, to name a few. How do you feel about fantasy? Do you think it is harmless or just a waste of time? One of the things that attracts me to fantasy is the idea that anything is possible if the mind can conceive of that thing. What is your opinion?

I think I link the escapism, and the fact that things are out of our normal realm. I read a lot of Fantasy about all I read actually. I love elves, magic, and things. Mercedes Lackey, Kim Harrison, Patricia Briggs, and Lynn Flewelling number among my favorites.

All of those names are very familiar to me, Aurone. I used to get a lot of my books from the Science-fiction Book Club. They carry a wide variety of books and authors.

When I was younger I was a die hard mystery fan...starting of course with Nancy Drew, then worked way up to Agatha Christie, Dorothy Sayers, Nero Wolfe, etc. As I got older I kind of got bored with mysteries and switched to fantasy...couldn't tell you what was my very first fantasy type book I read, and most fantasies I read are children's/young adult books..like of course Harry Potter. Love Tolkien, C.S. Lewis...love the Inkheart series by Cornelia Funke, Artemis Fowl series, Anne MacCaffrey, Phillip Pullman, Eragaon series, (His last book of the series is coming out next month). I think I'm drawn to fantasy since it's such a great escape from the negativity that exists in the world

I grew into maturity reading most of the authors you mention, pyewacket. I believe that nothing hones the imagination quite like reading good fantasy fiction. I only discovered Anne MacCaffrey several years ago, but her work is excellent.

I love escaping into the world of fantasy my friend, and interesting enough I too am Taurus, I have a good imagination and can jump into a world of dreaming for sure. Although I have to admit that I couldn't get into Terry Pratchett, I do love Harry Potter, Stephen King yes definitely. It's never a waste of time if you enjoy it! Never think that, sometimes with the world as it is, it's great to jump into fantasy and escape reality, trouble is, returning to the world of living LOL!

I enjoyed fairy tales as a child, immenseley. I too still enjoy the genre. Would you put Stephen King in the Fantasy genre? I would put him in horror myself and Lora Leigh into romance. Although I'm an avid reader, I'm also a slow reader...there are way too many books in my library of all genres for me to get through comfortably.

I absolutely love fantasy, fairy tales specifically. It is after all what introduced me to my love of reading. As I child, I got hooked on stories of fairies and magic. Now as an adult, I still get lost in the land of make-believe. That's why I'm very much a fan of Harry Potter and the Lord of the Rings. I also am an avid fan of most of the authors you mentioned. I eagerly await for the new release of these authors so that I may lose my self in the world of fantasy once again. I greatly admire the minds of these authors who can conceive such a complex and fantastic world.
