Maybe I'm Just Being An Idiot But I Can't Seem To Start Discussions Anymore

As so eloquently put in my title, I can't seem to start discussions anymore. I don't know what my problem is! I don't have any problem responding to them. I just seem to have a block starting them! I see so many that I actually had the same thoughts, but never put them down and then someone else did! Am I an idiot, or what? How many of you have felt the same way?

Hi Opal, You must of heard of writers block you are just suffering from myLot block thats all, you are definitely NOT an idot you always give great well though out responses. I think we all struggle at times to post a discussion. I usually post of life things that I or a friend is experiencing that others can relate to but I see some and I think now why didn't I think to post as I have also had the thought to also. Ellie :D

Hi Opal26. You are definitely not the only one feeling this way. I, too, have no problem responding to many discussions here on myLot. But when it comes to thinking up something, my mind is blank! Then, when I read the discussions of others, many start them about things going on in their everyday lives or experiences they have had, or a new product they've tried, something they've cooked or seen on TV, etc. So, I think you and I must be making it harder than what it really is. For example, when I look around my greatroom I'm sitting in, I see several objects I could start discussions about. I guess we just have to simplify the whole process. Then, go for it! Come on, Opal, let's do it!

I think you're right Pearl, that must be it. I tend to over think things. I guess that's the Libra in me. It's really simple, but I make it too complicated. You're absolutely right, so why can't we just do it!

Goodness nope, you're not an idiot...you're probably going through a dry spell and just can't think of anything at the moment. Right now I'm trying to refrain from starting any discussions as I'm trying to do catch up on replying to people that have posted on my former discussions as I'm way behind as I'm still working on my grant project. The thing that WILL frustrate me no end is that while I might not run out of ideas for discussions I will with articles...don't ask the long dry spell I've had with that..I have periods where I'm cranking out one article a day and submit to Associated Content then I have periods like now where I can't think of a blasted thing to write about...I do have a few articles ideas though circulating, but my top priority right now is finishing off that grant project which I should be by the end of the week..then hopefully some more inspiration will come to me on article topics...and also writing my novel which has also been on hold for now

Well one trick I've learned that helps is to just write...anything no matter how dumb it is. I read this trick from the book by Julia Cameron The Artist's Way..the idea is to just write and keep the words going even if they are nonsensical ...I have to admit one reason I wasn't writing my aspects of my grant proposal since it was like, duh? What do I write? So I forced myself to just sit at the computer and write a bunch of garbage at first that didn't make any sense..Then bingo...it started to flow..I managed to finish my narrative career summary tonight..No none of it is finished as I want to fine tune it, but basically everything I wanted to say is there now..all I have to do is edit it. I also find it helps when I write to virtually talk out loud as I'm writing...uh my two kitties have long since learned their mom is daft...I can just imagine them rolling their eyes and thinking.."Oh, no, mom's doing that writing thing again."

That's just it Pye, I need to get over this writers block thing because I need to strart writing again. That's the plan for the "making money otb" that I was talking about. I also wanted to do some work on Associated Content. What are they going to do with a writer with writers block?

I have been thinking about that too. I don't normally start discussion, I usually respond to other's discussions more often. Someone here on myLot makes a list of topics they want to start a discussion on. Maybe you can do that too. I'd also suggest a brainstorming session to get the brain cells moving a little. Buysurely, you and I are not idiots.

I think anyone who is active on here can relate to this one. Actually, most of the time, it is more Fun to post back in here than to start New discussions anyways, so I usually post back to way more than I ever start. And I feel unless you really have something in here worth talking about and getting some feedback in, isn't it more Fun to post back to someone else as well?

You are definitely not alone here and by no means an idiot! I have tried to be more proactive in starting discussions lately but it can be so hit and miss..... Do I put up some inane topic just to get responses? Well I don't like the thought of that..... Do I get all creative and try to be unique with a topic? Well I keep trying to do this and very few people take any notice..... I guess when the inspiration or creativivity is just not there all we can do is respond, respond, respond until the tide changes!

I can still start discussions BUT not multiple ones every day. Now and then one will strike me or I even think of several. Now what I don't get is something simple that never thought to start and someone else does and they get 8 pages of responses. That's irritating lol!

i experienced that last month, some sort of "loss for words" thingy..And this month, i had so much to say but cant because of lack of time.. I think it's normal because there may be some underlying problems or pressures which causes our minds to not really focus on what we really wanna do.. What I did was, since I can't start any, i just commented on mine and responded to others. Hoping i would somehow perk up or juggle my mind or trick it into releasing some of the ideas I have in store.. It's not like you're being an idiot but rather your mind may be stressed and you're not really conscious about it.. So, just take a breather and somehow, it will all come back to you... See, you've started already with this discussion..

I think you're right eihdra. And it's not like me to be at a loss for words. It's just something about starting a discussion that get's me drawing a blank.

Hi Opal, you just started one ... and it's attracting quite a number of responses. Yup, there are days, even weeks when I can't think of any topics to start; worse still, I can't find any discussions to interest me or reply to. Don't know if I'm getting bored with myLot, or have run into a myLot-block! Well, the phase will pass! Have fun and happy myLotting!

Hey Sweetie, First of all, no, you are not an idiot!! I'm usually so busy answering others post I don't have time to post. I post when all of a sudden I think of an interest or question. Even if I think I have seen something similar I usually have a different perspective or different side to it. Anyway, something will come to you. What am I saying? You just started a discussion!!XOXO leenie

It may just be that you are distracted by other things in your life. I do not usually start discussions. At least not very often.I know that my mind is on a lot of other things and so I do not start the discussions. It is important that we should start a few, so that others have something to respond to, on the other hand, responding is also important. It takes both for this to be working as a discussion site. It will come back to you, have no fear.

Well Opall you have just made a topic so no problem if you cannot make a start in responding to discussion. I think you have to give yourself some break. Some rest perhaps then come back again after your mind have been refreshed. It's hard if you will force yourself to start something which you seem to be incapable at the moment. Relax and get some fresh air then come back again. Have a nice rest!

beautoful natural scenery - do you like it?
Hello Opal26,I think it is normal indeed.Because many people could meet this kind if situation. There are so many people start the new discussions here every day, every hour, even every minute.and we must have some similar opinions to post on mylot.I also have this feeling too.In some conditions, when i want to post a new topic, i will search it on mylot firstly, but to my surprise, some one has started one like this. why? so now, i just confront it usually with a normal heart.Maybe sometimes, if we don't want to consider something, but the new idea will be displayed in our mind involuntarily.lol good luck

Thank you successlog, I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one who get's beaten to the punch. I guess with such a large community it's bound to happen that others will be thinking somewhere along the lines of a similar topic,

I wouldn't worry about it Opal. It may be that you are just trying to think of something to hard. Like when you loose the car keys and you can't see them right infront of your face because you are trying to find them to hard, LOL! Or does that only happen to me? Anyways, I would suggest just answering until something comes to you, then maybe it will just start pouring out. This is what I go through, blank for a while then all of a sudden I have all kinds of things to talk about:)
