I'm not too much for small dogs. Too hyperactive and yappy for me. Mostly we've had mutts, medium sized dogs, chow and shepherd mixes, Australian shepherd mixes, they've all been pretty good dogs.

the yappiness depends on the owner! I have had 5 Pekenese and none of them were yappers. they were quiet. the 3 schnauzers I have had were not yappers either. I would not allow them to bark for no reason. I AM THE QUEEN! and ruler of the dogs.

We have a GoldenDoodle. An absolutley WONDERFUL no shed dog. Great with kids. Extreamly smart. Love to play and is very lovable. The best part is that you can choose the size of dog you want. We have one that the poodle was a miniture poodle and the golden retreiver. Yume, our dog, is about 15 lbs and great for the house. I have a friend who had one breed from a standard poodle and retreiver. That one is about 40 lbs. Absolutely beutiful dogs. Checkout www.goldendoodles.com.

Oh no. Not Poodles Doodles. COMPLETELY DIFFERENT!! And I am not kidding. These are hybrid dogs. that means the dominate genes from each species are taken. In the poodle it has a recesive gene that causes them to be hyper and tempermental. Breeding with the Golden Retreiver (GR) cause the puppies to take the dominant gene from the GR making them more subdued and docile dogs. A labradoodle has the same traits. I assure you you would not be disappointed in these dogs. (And i am not even selling them) :)

Poodles ehh? I have not been much of a fan of the poodles... They always seemed to high-strang... But I am glad that you love yours!

Our last 2 dogs were a shepherd mix and they were very good pets. We've had a Dashaund for the last 10 or 11 years and he has been an excellent pet. He's good with everyone including kids and cats. He is friendly and loves to greet anyone who stops by the house. He's short haired and doesn't have the long, stretchy body. He's a mini. As far as any breed, I would get another doxie. The only dog I would not own is a pit bull for various reasons.

Maybe you should think about what you are looking for in a dog (exercise demands, temperament, shedding, etc) and what you can offer to the dog before you start asking for breeds that might suit. There are so many different kinds of dogs with completely different needs. So many dogs get rehomed once mature because the owners got them when they were small and 'cute' and didn't realize what they would become as adults and the time they would require. You can't for example ever leave a puppy on its own while you go to work for 8+ hrs (no, shutting one outside in the garden is not an option either), puppies need constant supervision and are pretty much a full-time job. Some breeds shed heavily, others require trimming every couple of months, and some require several hours of exercise every day regardless of weather. Is that something you are prepared to do when you come home from work/school? My dog (a cavalier king charles spaniel) is now when grown up completely satisfied sleeping 16 hours per day and getting one walk a day but as a puppy he was a maniac trying to climb walls if I did not do the usual routine of being outside with him on average 3-4 hours every single day playing with him, walking, training, and socializing. Puppies are exhausting. If you don't know what you're in for, go to the shelter and get an already trained adult. Puppies make you want to tear your hair out half the time and will really be testing your patience.

LOL yea he is a tiny one but he thinks hes a big boy.. I really love small lap dogs .. the bredder I got him from told me he was going to be at least 8 lbs .. hes lucky if he is even 5.. but hes spoiled rotten .. he has a pet stroller.. a pet car seat .. a bed I keep on my desk becouse he always has to be near me .. he has a papose I carry him in when I go to sertian stores.. he use to use a play pen when he was a puppy .. becouse I was scared my son would have stepped on him .. so I use to put him in there when I would clean house or was busy cooking and neededto know he was safe .. Hugs me

i would get a miniature schnauzer. they are entertaining & easy to train. no shedding either. they do need to be groomed - you clip them yourself or have it done at the dog groomers for about $32 or so. that includes cleaning ears (their hair has to be plucked out of the ears), nails, bath & clipped. they fit well in a large backyard or in an apartment. mine (i've owned 3 so far in my life) have all gotten along well with my other pets - parrot, cats & other dogs, big and small. my current schnauzer is learning to leave the guinea pig alone. one schnauzer I had was a better mouser than the cat. you can go to dogsbreed website & check out traits to see what fits for you.

Speaking as an interested party I like German Shepherds. My grandfather raised German short-haired pointers. They are a nice alternative. Better dispositions with strangers but quite protective of their families.

Hi Carl, yes German Sheppards are a nice dog. I just think that it might be a little bigger then what I want. i think a nice lap dog would be cool! All our animals end up in our laps anyways. Maybe a choker spaniel
