Are you material?

How much do you wish to have things like the car of the year, a big house, the limited edition CD of that foreign band or the perfume that a singer just released? How material are you? Well, I can say I'm kinda material, 'cause lately I've been wishing a lot of material things, like some DVD and books, a new PC, etc.. But, the thing I want most in this moment is a "feeling" thing, then I think I have a certain balance. And how about you?

I think I am balanced right now, I want a few things but not those things you described in there. I want a nano ipod but I am willing to wait. I want more books. I want to have a comfortable pair of walking shoes. I am material enough I guess.

Yeah, I think you have a "healthy materialism". ^^ I'm also aiming for a Nano, but it's not that cheap in here, then I'm willing to wait also; books are my passion, and I always have to want one; and shoes.. Yeah, I'm needing one also.. D: Thanks for posting!

of course all of us wants something for ourselves. specially house, car, nice clothes and jewelries. i love that too, but it doesnt necessarily mean we are materialistic. i dont think so. its our dream our want to have someday. materialistic for me is the one who buy things that she dont needed. asking to someone to buy it for her.

Don't take my discussion to the bad side, zeny_zion. =) I just used "material" by following Wikipedia's concept of "Materialistic": "Materialistic describes a person who is markedly more concerned with material things than with spiritual, intellectual, or cultural values". That's the way I'm trying to take the discussion to. ^^ Thanks for posting!

Interesting question. Most times you only get accused of being materialistic. This time I get to admit it. I consider myself materialistic, however not in a negative way. And I think some people are. I am materialistic in the way that I love things. Not just any old thing, but top of the line things. I want the biggest and best of everything. I love designer shoes and purses. I love my BMW. I love my big house. I love all of the beautiful things that fill my house. So I guess I am materialistic. The reason that I say not in a negative way, is because I don't allow "the things" to define who I am, nor does the lack of or the fact that you have things make me think that you or I are any better than the next person. I just like stuff. No excuses. I feel that the definition of a person's character is only revealed when we are stripped butt naked. And have nothing to offer but the "real you". When stripped butt naked, down to the bare bone character, people that know me still love me. They still know that I am the best mother, the best sister, the best employer, and the best friend that I can be.

Very nice of you admit it. ^^ But I still think you're not totally materialist. And completing my phrase, I think there will be a VERY few people which will post in this discussion that are REALLY materialist, in the whole meaning. You just like to have a little ambition.. A healthy ambition, I'd say. =) Thank you for posting!

I was never a materialistic person. I believe life has many aspects that are way more valuable than stuff. Like family, friends, and relationships. Don't get me wrong, I like things, nice things. And I feel I am blessed to have what I do. I have known lots of people who were. Some just because they like to have stuff. Others because they thought it made them a better person and more popular. Then we have the show off types who are really insecure and use their stuff to make themm look better, or so they think. And the last group are people who think that things will make them happy. Very good discussion, thanks and have a great night! Welcome to mylot!

Yeah, I could say that there are acceptable levels of materialism.. But when it is put in front of friends, family and such other things that are much more important than material things, there's something wrong. ^^" Thanks for posting!
