8/28/08 Dear myLotters, I don't know if what I'm about to do is against the rules here. I don't think so, but if it is I'm sorry. I just got accepted to Momentum 2009. For those of you who don't know what Momentum is, it's a big disability and writing arts festival held in New Zealand. They want me to present. I, of course, want to go because once you get into Momentum it's easier to get your work published and exhibit in other spaces. Not to mention the fact that every famous artist in the disability world will be there. They say I can attend the conference for free. All I need is a plane ticket for myself and my assistant,a hotel room, and a little bit of money to eat. I have just researched an auction site on the internet and the fare is $601.00per person currently. If you buy it from a traditional airline, the fare is about $2,000 per person. I'm going to contact the conference and see if they have special rates on hotels. I gather that this adventure will take me about $3,000 to $4,000. That seems like a lot of money to me. In fact, it's more than I've ever seen in my entire life. However, I realized that if all of my 85 myLot friends gave me $5.00 and convinced six other myLotters to do it I could raise the money by tomorrow. MyLot's total population is 141,577. I know at least 200 different people have responded to my discussions. I hope I've been valuable enough as a contributor here for you to consider giving me a few dollars. Any person who contributes to this adventure will be listed in the book I create about the subject. I also plan to throw a thank you party when I return and give a talkback. If your business would like to sponsor me, I will include you in the program for this event. To verify my inclusion in this program I am attaching the email I received today. Any questions please email martina_robinson@hotmail.com (you can also paypal money directly to this email address) with Momentum 09 in the subject line. I get lots of emails and don't want to miss your messages. Thank you in advance for your support. Sincerely, Martina Robinson ******** Here is the email from the coordinator of Momentum 2009: Hi Thank you for your expression of interest inMomentum'09. We had over 100 expressions of interest from around the world so it's taken more time than expected to work through them all and fit them into our programme. We would like to invite you to be part of the Learning Fair and Market Place programme. This part of the programme feature on Day 3(Friday 27th of February). We will be running a series of workshops and presentations and some one on one appointments. We are still fine tuning the programme in terms of number of presentations and length so more discussion will need to take place around that should you decide to accept our invitation. The programme is in draft at the moment and may change slightly as we firm things up. At this stage, all we need an indication from you that you are interested in this offer. We are in the process of applying for funding so are working on our fee structure. We would like to offer you one free registration for the symposium, (valued at $450), and have two options for the remainder of our offer, either a cash payment or contribution to the cost of your getting to Momentum to the same dollar value. It would be helpful if you could let us know which option you would prefer. Please remember that, when it comes to overseas (or even local) travel, it will be significantly easier for you to get funding to get here than it will for us to get funding to bring you here. We're committed to working with you on this, however, and will supply you with formal letters etc to assist. We will sending information about coming to New Zealand, including travel and visa information. If you would like to discuss the content of your contribution you act Philip Patston our creative director on philip@momentum09.com, Skype diversitynz or phone +64 (0) 9376 483can cont7. I will be in touch again over the next few months to discuss any equipment or requirements you may have for your symposium contribution. We look forward to working with you and to an incredibly successfulMomentum'09. Kind Regards
