Wake up and hear the jackhammers...

The neighborhood is quieter today. The last couple weeks, all I could hear were construction workers yelling at each other and jackhammers going at it. I don't know if they're done with expanding the main street because I drove through it yesterday and it's nicely paved or if they're just enjoying Labor Day as other workers out there. Those last couple weeks, I've been awakened by these sounds a few times when it wasn't time for me to get up just yet. And I have to say that even though they were doing so to make the neighborhood better, I found waking up to such noise annoying. What about you? What annoying noise, besides your own alarm, have woken you up from a nice slumber? Your roommate's alarm is acceptable. And did you do anything about it? I didn't. I couldn't go over to the workers and tell them to tone it down. I'd rather stay as far away as I could from them and their jackhammers.

I am sorry to hear that you have been awakened the past couple weeks by construction workers and their jackhammers and I am glad that it has been more peaceful lately and the closest thing that I can recall to that is one day me and my fiance got woke up by equipment over at the farm making all kinds of racket and we are still not sure what they were doing over there.

The jackhammers are back. I think they'll be done pretty soon, I hope! You're not ever curious as to what was going on in the farm? Thanks Cowboy.

We haven't had jackhammers going (thankfully) but we do have garbage trucks that roll through here at 4 am emptying dumpsters. Sometimes I sleep through it but other times it wakes me up. There isn't anything I can do about it but live with it...it's part of living in apartments. **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

I used to live in an apartment too and I did "enjoy" the garbage trucks emptying the dumpsters. Now I just "enjoy" the garbage trucks emptying our trash bins very early in the morning every Thursday. But we can't really complain about it because without them, who would take care of our trash? Thanks for responding!

On this past weekend, the neighbors were contructing there house too and I was so disturbed listening to jackhammers producing so much sound. I guess they were upgrading the construction in their kitchen like making kitchen shelves etc. I just put a pillow on the back of my head and lay down on bed on my belly covering my ears with the pillow.

I hope your neighbors' kitchen construction gets done soon. Do they just work on it during the weekend?

i live in a quiet countryside.but each morning, cars or motorcycles whizz along every now and then.esp. when market day comes, peddlers and buyers ,and other kinds of people crowd into the narrow street.our house is near the street.that doesnt wake me up yet. believe it or not, sometimes i can be awakened by my mother and our neighbours' gossip!

i've been awakened so many times by the bawling of our neighbor's whiny kidS. they have this kid francesca who is a total brat and would cry and scream really loud a lot. for a long time, i wished everyday that she would outgrow her brat from hell phase, and i think right now she has just a little bit. she has stopped throwing tantrums in the mornings, although she still does on other times of the day. HOWEVER, she has this new baby brother who i guess picked up her abominable habits and has since taken over the early morning spot for bawling. i'm starting to think it's hereditary. they even do this in the middle of the night. there were times when i can't take the noise anymore and i yell at them, but it only worked once. i have considered reporting them to child services since there are times, especially at night when the kid starts crying and coughing and they ignore him. nobody tries to soothe him back to sleep...

Oh, poor little kid. Have you ever tried talking to the parents? Though this is a very sensitive topic to go up to a parent and tell them they might be doing something wrong. Do you know how old Francesca and her brother are?

Here although the HOA is always complaining they don't have money for the important things, they still waste it paying a guy to run a leaf blower, the purpose of which I cannot directly ascertain other than its high value in making unwanted noise and distributing dirt and debris onto everyone's just-swept porch. Fortunately we live in an upper, so we get a little less dirt, but the noise is intolerable. Hubby was just mentioning today how quiet it is -- you can sure tell it is a holiday!

The jackhammers are back. The silence was indeed holiday-related. I am with you on the level of intolerableness of the leaf blower noise. Do you think they're told to just run the leaf blower on the main paths and direct leaves/debris to the side? I don't even know if they collect all the debris and throw it somewhere else. But I have seen a few stuff them in big black bags. After a couple days, leaves would be all over again.

Hi Anne, Well I've been awakened this very weekend by some really annoying neighbors who have been turning on their stero on Sunday morning before 9:00am and blasting it with the windows open. I don't know what the he11 they were supposedly listening to this week but last week it was Michael Jackson, who I like but not at that level on a Sunday when my bf and I want to sleep! They stay up very late and they are extremely loud and have their tv, stereo screaming children, screaming parents. Well, I'll be taking care of this asap! I also get wakened by the guys that work in my apartment complex doing the lawn or weedwacking! There's always something loud going on here! That's why I have my trusty ear plugs-except unfortunately they don't keep out all loud noises.

So your trusty ear plugs aren't trusty enough? So far, in our neighborhood, we haven't had any bad experiences with loud music in the morning. Except for cars, now and then, going around the neighborhood with loud music on.
