My country will face to election in 2009. Every political party has strengthen their popularity in society. Previous election in 2004, I have see a few celebrity is change his job from artist/actor become a politician. Now this election 2009, there are much celebrity participate to be a politician. I don't know why they do it. They haven't get any political experience. If they chosen to be a "DPR" the same with "senator". What will they do in there? They have been chosen to fullfill the aspiration of us. What your opinion about this? If this condition same with your country which celebrity become a politician? Thank's for your that willing your time to read my discussion or respond it.

Here in the USA we had a actor for president. As it happens he was one of the best.Politician's are somebody that give's up there time to do a job. what experience do you need anyway? Not much as long as you can BS with the rest your good to go. It's about what you can do for your country and or state. Not what your job was before. That is how they get experience. on the job training more or less. I fig. the bullys always get there way.

I have seen a lot's of celebrities turning to politicians also but I don't like the idea. I don't celebrities would suit tobe an politician. Maybe because we are used to seeing them in dramas we can't imagine them being so serious and all.I think they should concentrate on being a celebrity only.

Yeah, I think like that too. The celebrity is good on acting, so will they apply in politic situation. If it's happen, I can imagine my country will become what again.

I think there are celebrities that have become good politicians (as stated by others, Ronald and Arnold) and bad politicians (again as stated, Estrada). But it isn't just celebrities that are voted in to office because of their popularity, politicians sometimes get in to office because of their popularity whether or not they are truly qualified. For example, how many supporters of Barack Obama are voting for him because he is popular and how many are voting for him because they know his positions on different issues? Not to pick on any one party, how many people are voting for McCain because his VP is a woman? Granted there are people who make informed decisions when making their vote, whether it is a celebrity or not. But many more make their decision on who they like and not on who would be best for the country. This isn't a problem with who is running for office, it's a problem with the people voting. Should celebirties be allowed to run for office? Yes! Should voters take the time to be more informed about candidates? Yes!

I personally do not think celebrities should become politicians because most of them have an over inflated ego and they are just looking for more and more money which that would not do the country any good, and I can not think of any celebrities who have given up their acting or artistry to become a politician even though I would not be surprised if they did.

I know what you're talking about because I live in the same country. Not only they want to become senator, many of them are candidates for the Governor or vice governor. It wouldn't be fair if I said that all of the celebrities are stupid, but some of them are really doesn't have the capabilities of being a politician. I believe that some of them only used their fame to gain more power by acquiring a position in the government.

they are using fame in order to attain power and position and it benefits them..it is ok if they have the knowledge and their purpose is to help the people, but if they do that just to make them richer thru corruption.. then they are dumb..

You wont believe the same happens in my state and our ex-Chief minister was an actress :) and now she is ruling us but she is experienced and old enough she has the capability to rule our state but then she is too old i have seen her only as a politician from my childhood but my grandpas and grandma has seen her as a actress and it was difficult for them to accept her as a CM as first and now everything is fine ..There are small communities which are blooming in our place these small communities are mostly started by the actors only, these male actors first try to act in a film where the role of them would be saving the country and saving the people and protecting the democracy re-writing the law to be public friendly , if the film was a big hit then suddenly they jump to politics.. if they were really true as they were in the film i would appreciate them but they have preplanned before like they wish to become a politician in order to fascinate people they spend their own money and act in such films it happens more in my country and i got fed up because of that..

Celebrities who gets into politics do so because a lot of them are being persuaded by traditional politicians who think that having the popular celebrities in their ticket will also make them win the race. They make the celebrities believe that they can do politics too and can serve the people when in fact, the innocent celebrity is just being used. There are only a handful of celebrities who can really honestly admit that they go into politics to serve the country and the people. They just get into the action because of popularity as well as power that go with it. They may win, (based on popularity) yes, but time will tell if they are really cut up for the job. It is pathetic. But still, let us give them a chance, who knows they may eventually become one of the greatest leaders...

I live in the state of California, so I have direct experience with this right now. Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger is an actor turned politician, and although he is a Republican, he has done okay for us here. I know that there are a lot of people that don't like his policies, but at least he has some, I know that people don't think he has done a very good job, but he came into office with the biggest deficit this state has ever seen and I believe he has tried everything to make California better. The deficit is far from his fault, but he takes the brunt of the blame anyway. He also does not take the salary of governor for the job he does, he has so much he does not need it and he gives it back to the state. I think that overall he sets a very fine example of how if you have policies and ideas that people will back up it does not matter if you are an actor or actress. Not to mention I salute Arnie for going against the grain, every time I hear him speak with that great accent of his (I have always loved his voice) it reminds me of my childhood, my dad is a HUGE fan of his.

Good actor, but is he a good president??? - This is our former President, Joseph Estrada... He is knows as Erap since he is a former actor.. His tag line is "ERAP para sa MASA"...
Hi winzpc... In our country which is the Philippines has also experienced same in your country.. Many of the artist/actor here were already engaging their selves in the political career.. It seems that from artist/actor they will be going up into politician.. I think the reason why they want to be a politician it is because other people invited them to join the political career since they are already popular.. Maybe, other people told them that they can be a good politician and 100% they might win since they are already popular... So, during the showbiz career they must deal with many people whether poor or rich and most of all doing good things in order for them to get the trust of the people and also to show that they are a good model.. If they already know that people are trusting them then that is the time they move on as politician... I also observed that people are voting those who are popular.. They were not thinking whether the person they were voting is capable enough in that particular position.. If the person is popular it doesn't mean that he/she is already capable to be a congressman, senator, mayor, president, or other position in the government.. Each one of us has its own talent/skills in this world, we have our own task but even though that we don't have that kind of talent still we are engaging ourselves.. We are just thinking what's the best for us and not what's the best for all of us.. So, I guess that showbiz and politics are joined together because in order for him/her to be a President of the country, he/she must be a good actor/actress so that people will like him/her.. This is only my opinion.. I am not saying that this is a fact.. I am just basing my opinion from what I observed in our country.. Hope I didn't offend you..

Hi again! Oh our country have the same situations when it comes to elections. Actually alot of celebrities are now in government positions. Alot is in the senate and some are officials in different regions. I'm not very fond of celebrities becoming government officials cause mostly don't have any experience in government service. They only learn government service when they win and are already serving so I think its not proper. I also feel that they just win because they are popular already and they take advantage of that. But there are some who has been serving the government for several years now and have actually become good with it but those celebrities are related to people who has been and still goverment officials so they somehow are more familiar with the work. Ciao!

Hi winzpc, No, we don't have any celebrities becoming politians here, but I think some how those celebs becoming polictains will get the votes for who there are and not what they believe in, well if your favourite star was asking for your votes then you will vote for hem, won't you? Tamara

Here in my country that is being the trend. Good thing now that the voters is wise enough not to chose these actors to be on the government. They know that these actors are not yet experienced on politics. The last time there was an election here, our very famous boxer run for the election and he lose. The people knew that he is better off in boxing, but now he is being trained to run again next election and from what I heard he will be retiring from boxing.

Whilst it is true that celebrities have the stupidity gene, often this trait is so strong that it interferes with the other genetic disposition necessary in a politician and that is the ability to lie convincingly. all the best urban

i feel it ok, i can accept that. cause actors or actresses are only their professions, they also enjoy the right to vote or be elected. so why not? and since they are public figures, they pay more attention to their behaviour and speech.

negative... they made use of their popularity to gain votes, but whether they have the talents or the political means to rule the country or the state well is still questionable... Joseph Estrada of Philippines is a great bad example...

well, i'm not really against it. all that matters for me is that he/she is capable of the position he wants to be in. he/she should not use his popularity as a key for his victory. we, as well, should be able to judge very well. we should get fooled with what they say and the promises they soon forget once they are in position.

Celebrity POliticians are very much common now a days. They make a ticket to their political ambitions their popularity because they are celebrity. I hate those kind of persons. ACtually I don't vote them in elections.
