The Power of Music

Music's a funny thing. It can transport you to another time and place in an instant. You're listening to the radio and they play "that" song and suddenly, you're back "there" again. It happened to me again this morning. The song? Like a Rolling Stone by Bob Dylan. "There"? My grandmother's living room. I'm standing in front of her ancient floor model radio listening to this very same song and feeling sad that summer's rapidly coming to an end and I have to go back to school. I'm wearing a pale yellow, long sleeve nylon shirt that does little to hide my "assets"... faded orange short shorts in a soft jersey material... and white knee socks. For some reason, my footwear never makes it to this nostalgia trip. And this happens every time I hear this song. Where has music taken you?

"Stairway to Heaven" takes me back to my first slow dance with the hottest guy in grade 8! Music has always been a part of our family since my father was in the music business. When I woke up this morning I heard my father singing "School days, school days... " I can't remember the rest of the words but he always sang that song to me the first day of school. And her it is the first day of school, my father has been gone 2 1/2 years and this is the first time I've heard it in years. Hello, Dad. I hear you!

Yup, that's it. My 12yo is starting grade 7. She was so excited she couldn't sleep last night. I was rubbing her back at 2am!!! She has always loved school. She doesn't see much of her friends over the summer. My 15yo is going into grade 10. She has an issue with another student who, I believe, is probably in love with her. She copies everything my daughter does. My daughter wasn't looking forward to going back to that so that is why she was dreading going back today. Other than that I think she's okay about it.

Ironically, it was Blondie and "heart of glass" that took me back to the 90's on the beach with my friends haha ! We were having a lot of parties that time, it is now past as I moved to Belgium. But oh well... It is always so good for the morale when you hear the song(s) that "transport" you to another part of your life.. Well it also happens that a certain music can remember you some bad time of your life too... You love the music, but not that moment... (of course ^^) Be happy !

So when you want to go to the beach, you just have to listen to Blondie!

LOL Music has that effect, doesn't it? Old time religious music always reminds me of my Grandma (on my Dad's side) b/c she always played it in her kitchen. I can remember sitting at her big table and listening to it with her. Motown music always makes me think of my Mom. I listened to that alot growing up. When we traveled, when we moved, we even danced around the living room to it. Some songs remind me of personal losses in my life and there are some that never fail to bring tears to my eyes. There are some that make me feel like I can do anything and some that comfort me like nothing else. **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

It's more than just being reminded of a time. With this particular song, I really feel like I'm back there, feeling all the melancholy of youth, but also watching myself from a distance. (I guess that's why I don't know what shoes I'm wearing... it's one of those old-fashioned Hollywood iris shots.)

Memories are a good thing and most memories are triggered by music of some sort. I go back to my sixteenth birthday party when I hear "Cherish" by The Association, I was asked to go steady for the first time when that song was playing. I find music very relaxing because it can take me back to a more carefree existence even if only for a short time.

I like music very much.everyday I listen atleast an hour. Music is the onlything which will take you to the place where you wanted to go. It will change our mood very sharply from happyness to grumbling and from sadness to happyness. We will easily go to past when we listen a song.We can quickly recollect the past areas where we heard that song earlier.it is a great experience and we all should feel lucky to have music as our hobby
