Storage

I haven't long been to the downstairs toilet when the children keep there shoes on a shoe rack, they have a shelf each which can fit four pairs of shoes on, also keep there coats hanging up in there as well. Well sitting next to the shoe rack.... yes two pairs of shoes. I wouldn't mind if there was no where to put them but this child's shelf is half empty. Why when you give storage they don't use it and when they have no storage for things they keep moaning at you for storage!!!!!!

Your kids must be related to my son. He has plenty of places to put things, but I am always finding them next to or on top of where they actually go.

It is all part of the joys of having children. They just don't believe in hanging up there clothes, putting their books on the shelves or putting anything away for that matter. I once asked my youngest son why he couldn't put his belongings away and keep his room tidy and he responded, "Then you would have nothing to do all day." I must admit he was right. If all my children had tidied up after themselves, my days would have been rather boring. Now that they have all grown up and left home, I would love to have them back once again messing up the house. Enjoy them while you have them Anne18...easy for me to say now that mine are gone...ha, ha.

Not only children guilty of this grown ups too. I find myself not putting things back where they belong. I have shoe racks and instead of putting my shoes on the rack I just slip my foot out of them and push them out the way.

Got to be honest here lol my shoes are just semi thrown into the shoe cupboard ,which is under the stairs lol,but I do understand what you say.I recently bought some large plastic storage containers, the ones that stack on the top of each other, and I have sorted all of my material out and stored it in them, that way it keeps clean and dust free, and as the containers stack it takes less room to.

I just do not know. I get the same results from my hubby. I am not particularly neat, but I am neater than I used to be. When I first met hubby, his favorite sister told me he was a slob. His youngest sister just says he is unbothered by clutter. I just know that if there is a flat surface in my house, he covers it with something. My small rant. My two kids, on the subject of shoes, were very good about the rule of where to put shoes if they took them off downstairs. It was out by the front entrance. However I could not get some of the child care kids to comply. This was an important thing, since I never knew when I would have to go run an errand, and not only would we have to get ready, we would have to look behind furniture and under chairs, hoping to find those shoes. For your kids, would a bribe, er, reward work? Give them a sticker or a penny or something each time you randomly check and the shoes are in the correct place? I will never fathom how their minds work.
