What Was the Movie that Most Shocked you?

I have to admit, I'm a bit of a horror fanatic and I guess I'm really into the old blood and gore theme!! But, there was one movie that I will never forget and here it comes: 'Cannibal Holocaust'. Have you ever seen this movie? Also, what were your thoughts about this movie? Were you well and truly shocked? I remember the first time that I saw this movie and I did not know what to expect. Oh it definitely mentioned on the cover that this movie had been banned in so many countries, this was one of the reasons that it caught my eye! Anyway, if you don't know about it already I will give you a brief outline. 'Cannibal Holocaust' is about this group of backpackers and they travel to the Amazon forest in order to shoot a movie or rather a documentary about cannibalism! However, things don't turn out as they expected and well no one knows what happened to them. What did happen to them? Well, you should definitely watch the movie, I dare you!! Anyway, there I sat watching this movie and things start getting really graphic, I mean graphic!! This was only a movie right? But, I just could not believe what I was witnessing! The content of the movie was extremely graphic as regards the Amazonian tribes feasting on human flesh, nothing was left to the imagination. I almost felt sick! I can tell you I have seen some really good horror movies in my time, but the most horrendus thing about this particular story was the fact that it was based on truth, real life! This movie was based on a true story about some ignorant backpackers who had no idea what they were getting themselves into. When the movie had come to an end I just sat there in disbelief! This movie definitely pulls at your heart-strings! Would I watch this movie again? Definitely despite the shock and horror of the content as I now know what to expect! I guess it was the right decision to ban this movie as some people I'm guessing would have very weak stomachs! Anyway, I allow you to be the judge! By all means get yourself a copy of Cannibal Holocaust, if you think you can handle it!! See for yourself what I experienced alone one dark night!! Oh! By the way, if there are any other movies that have truly shocked you, I would like your views about them. Thanks in advance!! Andrew

I love horror movies too, can't get enough of them, in fact I am very much looking forward in watching Hostel 2 which my dad has warned me is pretty graphic and gross and that must be bad for him to say that, usually nothing shocks him! Providing the film has a good storyline and not gore for the sake of gore. There was only one film that really grossed me out and that was The Fly 2, have you ever seen it, ewwww it was the only film that gave me nightmares, I was probably in my late teens when I first saw it and after that I couldn't watch another horror film again, but gradually I got back into them, I mean sitting through Saw 1, 2 and 3 and Hostel and still can't get enough of them I must be a fanatic, but I have never seen Fly 2 again and never will that is one of the most shocking films ever, ewww and it's not that modern even, but for its day it was pretty shockable! I haven't heard of Cannibal Holocaust to be honest and how would you compare it to Saw and Hostel films, worst or better?

I guess I wouldn't be able to compare Cannibal Holocaust with The Saw or Hostel as I haven't seen those two movies but they sound pretty good. Yes, I definitely remember seeing Fly 2. That was very sick, I guess you're referring to the part where the man's face is erroded away by the goo from the fly's mouth? I enjoyed the film all the same. Cannibal Holocaust is definitely one you should see though, I think you would really love this one. Andrew

I am never really shocked by films that are graphic, I am shocked by how bad some films can be made. Take "Spider-Man 3", that was so bad I wanted to cry afterwards, it was nothing like the comic book. Stan Lee should have protested.

Hi, thanks for your response. It sounds to me like you definitely have a strong stomach!!! Would you take the risk though and chance watching 'Cannibal Holocaust'? I haven't seen Spider-Man 3 but I will take your word for it that it was bad!! I really enjoy horror movies and graphic contect! They definitely take you places that you have never been before! Thanks. Andrew

I probably could because I know that most of it is just Max Factor make-up and film dummies, none of it is actually real, unless it was based on a true story. When I mean that "Spider-Man 3" is bad, I mean it is bad in terms of storyline. A lot of the storyline was so far from the comic book it was depressing.

Hi, thanks for your response. Yes it was truly a great movie. If you have a look on www.amazon.com or www.amazon.co.uk and do a search you will find a few copies I think. They are now doing a DVD collectors edition, uncut. This is definitely one you want to see. I would be interested in your views once you have seen it though. Thanks. Andrew

I've never seen or heard of Cannibal Holocaust. And it seems like something worth checking out, lol. I love movies like this. I saw the movie Dancer In The Dark for the first time recently and I must say that I was impressed. I really like Bjork's acting, since she's actually a singer first. The movie is shocking in a subtle way. And I'm not going to share the ending, but I was shocked by that.

I have watched this movie about 2-3 years ago when I was in high school. I watched this with my high school friends. We were really shocked watching it, and I thought it was real as in a documentary of sort. But later on I knew that it was just a movie, but its a great movie. Gore movies are really thrilling to watch, here are one of my fave gore movies. Hostel, it really has contents that I dare not look at, like the time when the eye of a chinese girl was burned with a blow torch. I dare not give more details because I think those of weak stomachs can't read this. But I can say that it really is a great movie and I think you should all watch it.

Hi, Thanks for your response. So, you were shocked but you enjoyed the movie all the same I take it? There's definitely a certain reality about this movie and it truly is horrible to watch. Would you ever venture into the Amazon forest for a holiday and try and meet up with some of the tribes? I no that I wouldn't despite the reality or not of this movie. There are still very primitive practices going on in that part of the world! I haven't seen the film "Hostel". It sounds like it could be added to my list of favourites! Andrew

I bet anything that my friend owns "Cannibal Holocaust". Sounds like her kind of movie. I'll give it a try, if not I'll see if I can get it on netflix. James72, "When were Warriors" sound pretty good. I just watched a couple of clips on youtube and ended up adding that one to Netflix. I love foriegn films. I think that they don't try to cater to the masses like many of the movies that Hollywood puts out. They usually have much more plot and depth then the movies that make it to the theater here in America.

Hi Abbey, Thanks for your response. I haven't seen "Darkness Falls". Have I missed out on anything? What is it about horror that people love, myself included? I think that it's all about the surprises that are in store! Is the boogyman going to jump out of your closit? Is Freddy going to haunt your dreams? I just love horror films. I love it when it's really silent and then all of a sudden there's a loud blast of music and this really gets my heart pumping! Give me a pizza and a horror movie any day of the week!! Andrew
