In my case if he/she is a physically handicapped, then yes i give them alms, otherwise i never give alms cos i think it'll encourage them to live on begging & will never work for living but i gave whenever i feel like giving thinking that there is no loss in giving....

I completely agree with you that one should help only those who are disabled and should not give alms to those who are physically well as it encourages them to take to begging. Infact when some beggars came over begging i told them to take a job and asked them to come to our organisastion to join as trainees and over the period they would be promoted to the level of skilled workers but i was surprised to know that they were not intersted in doing a job but were happy begging. For them begging has become a business that's the reason why even their small children are doing the same thing.

I know that it is hard to decide who desirves your charity. But you have a giving heart. I give to people that I feel look like they really need help, and I have the money. I have even given my last dollars when it was needed. But I feel that one day if I am in need that someone will help me. There are some people that have made a living out of standing on the corners asking for money. But they forget to take off their expensive clothes. It's ashame that that people have to beg for money at all. I have been disabled for 19 years, so for all the Handicapped,Disabled people that you have helped. Thank You So Very Much.

I give when I can. And it depends on how I see people tho I am known to fall for a sad story more often than not.

Its very difficult to know which beggar is really forced to beg and which of the beggars are the ones that beg because they are lazy to work. And that's the reason as a principle I never give alms to anyone. I have known many institutions that help such beggars in getting a stable social life by providing them with infrastructure to either become self employed or work as an employee in the institution itself. But somehow their observation is that many of the beggars that are brought there run away and prefer to beg again. In India the begging is an Industry and it has an annual turnover of more than 10million rupees. That's one reason why slowly and steadily the underworld is getting its hands into it and begging is now more organized than ever. With that knowledge I do not think it would be morally right for me to give alms to anyone.

I guesse I am just a little to untrusting or synical. Because I have never given anything to someone looking for a handout. I am just not trusting enough to stop on the street and acknowlege someone let alone get into a conversation where I hear about their life. When I did work in the city I was never even asked by anyone for a handout but the guy I worked with could not even leave the building without being hit up for money. I guesse some people just look like easier targets than others.

I give alms to people who really deserve it.Not to those lazy people who roam about in the streets. If we do so its like a crime,we are making people more lazy.Don't give alms unless he cant work for his living. But helping is divine,do help for the poor not for the lazy people.
