How to solve poverty?

First you have to define poverty before you can eradicate it. In the west we use various definitions based on a random percentage of the so called average wage. This is highly inaccurate as it is obviously impossible to eradicate as the average increases as everyone's wealth increases. It is also based on 'income' and hence where people recive benefits in kond they are not included. for example, many 'poor' people recive housing beneift and council tax benefit. Hence they do not pay rent or council tax and this does not show on their expenditure side, or on their income side. Yet they are clearly better off than someone who has to pay both fo these expenses. It would be better to look at surplus or disposable income. The other measure used is the '1 dollar a day' threshold. Again this is meaningless when many contries work on 'barter' systems - that is exchanging goods not money. And because of relative costs of living and exchaneg rates between different countries the £1 can buy a living standard equivalent in other countries to a reasonable level. So what do you mean by poverty and then we can discuss how to eradicate it!

Well, until things financially in the USA can be turned around with the Government and president wanting to help the people here with Jobs, Medical, Food, etc. it will only continue to get worse. Then there are people left and right loosing homes with nowhere to turn as well. It is becoming a situation without any hope, and how can we change it? Not sure unless someone really starts realizing that help is needed and it is getting more desperate than anyone ever wants to realize as well.
