Do you have your own home-based recording studio?

Do your write your own compositios, and record them on CD? What type(s) of equipment are you using? Virtual or external? I have my own studio...compose & write my own works. I use a Yamaha midi controller keyboard & MXL mic hooked up to an old Barringer 6 channel mixer...then on to my computer's Cubase SX program + use Native Instuments-Bandstand for my virtual sounds...filter plugins such as lexicon. Right now, I am working on my 4th album, and it's coming along fine. A bit of writer's block for a while there last month, but otherwise doing OK. What's your set-up?

Hi there. I just run Fruityloop for the drumming programming track and some other virtual instruments. After converting to wave I put them in Sonar. I got one electric guitar so I can do guitar track on it. And for vocal just simply repeat the process just plug in the mic to the computer and began recording. The same goes with other instrument that I can find. My set-up is simple basic set-up but the result is quite good. I just use the normal home hi-fi speaker just to monitor the sound. Seems to me you'd already got 3 album, best of luck to you. May be if I got a little bit of extra money I will upgrade I will buy a keybord.

Like my friend before you, he uses FruityLoop as well. I just find it a bit too busy for me....and Sonar? Well, I'll give you credit if you can work yourself around that one too! Don't get me wrong, they are great programs. Actually, I'm a bit surprised that neither one of you spoke of using Cakewalk? It usually goes hand-in-hand with Cakewalk. But again, I find even Cakewalk hard to manage. I just use these others for their plug-ins, and can add them into Cubase. You're lucky that you own your own axe. I'm stuck with the one in the keyboard, but I plan on picking one up very soon. I just haven't decided whether or not to go acoustic or electric? Probably electric. I've always had my eye on getting an nice black & white 1963 Vintage model: Rickenbacher. Mmmmm, I just love that look, feel, and those awsome Humbucker pickups. Your studio sounds just about the same set-up as mine, except for the axe. Keep up the good work bro, and keep in touch.

Interesting topic guys. I use LOGIC. I have a very simple set up. Just my 4 channel mixer, and my guitar and microphone. Together with the stock of library loops, you can make some really good music of all genres; country, latin, eastern, hip hop, trance. Right now I'm looking for a way to convert my audio files to MIDI, so if anyone has any ideas please let me know. Thanks!
