Okay,so i am taking the g.e.d classes now. in highschool we had to take profficiency tests in order to graduate. there are 5 of them. I only passed 4,so i didnt graduate i just got a certificate of completion. I have NEVER been good at math. i tested for special ed in math but apparently that is not my problem.... so here i am doing my math in this g.e.d class and yes i am geting it. now my problem is. once i move on to somthing else i cant remember how to do what i did before.:( Im working on problems like 83 and 1/3% of what number is 365... also 10% of what number is 6.3 i am veary curious to see, just how many of us adults these days if given a math test like this.how many of us would pass it??... so what do you think. could you. or could you not? thanks for reading!:)

Math is everywhere. Say when your friend have a birthday, if you asked her how old she is then from that, you can compute what is her birthdate.

it is isn't it? and what are you doing right now to help your brain to memorize the procedures to resolve a math problem?

Math/Algebra was always my best subject and I probably remember most of algebra, but I graduated from high school 33 years ago, so you'd have to cut me a break here and there. Did you get your answers? The second one was easy and I knew without even thinking, the first one I think I have, but had to use a calculator since I didn't have a stubby pencil handy.

Well see you have an excuse for breaks. 33 years is a long time... as for me. its only been 5 years i should know more :P i do beleive i have a selective memory. but i have no control over it. LMAO... because ill learn how to do somthing and ill have it down... move on to another thing and then when i see a problem of what i got down before im like wtf?? how do i do this? Hahaha i forget so easily:(. I actually did get the answer. I THINK:P I dont have a calculator to check my answers so. I got 438?:)

That's what I got too. Most computers have a calculator in the accessories somewhere. Shouldn't be hard to find.

I've always loved algebra so I guess I'll pass. T'was my fave subject back in highschool so I guess I'll still nail it. But I'm not as sharp as before, I guess.

I could probably pass an algebra test today, although I hated it when I was in school. I was never that good in math, either, but I was better at algebra than any other math class. I'd definitely fail a geometry test! I had to reach way back into my memory when my kids were in school so I could help them. When I learned math, they called the learning technique "rote" where you repeated everything until you memorized it. They changed that to "new math" and my poor kids were totally lost! I taught them how to use th "rote" method, and they got it! I'm glad, because reliving those math classes was a nightmare! LOL

Well, if you need help when the time comes, just keep being a member here at myLot and ask away! I'm sure there are enough math gurus here already who could help you help your daughter in about six years. LOL

I have to use math behind the databases I develop and maintain at my job or they don't work like they're supposed to but I was never too fond of it. I had to use it when I was writing computer code, too. The key is to keep practicing the skills you have already mastered until you've completed the course.

Me, I really hate dealing with numbers, I dunno but I'm sick of it. I don't want to memorize all those formula, but I still remember some of them. This is the reason why I don't take that Engineering degree because of this. My head sores when I see those huge numbers to be computed. Well, if its basic algebra maybe I can.

I'd probably get a C. I liked Algebra when I was young, although I bombed in geometry. I say C because I've been helping my kids a little bit with their homework so it's not completely foreign to me.

Hi Mikes, If I will have a reviewer, I will make it..I need to review those stuff and practice! Math is learning by doing really so a lot of exercises is needed to enhance the learning! If I will take the test without any review, I am not sure if I can make it..lol! not unless if the problems are very short so that I can take time!

Oh dear... Ask me anything except math. I am so not good in math I will surely fail the test. I just can't understand it especially those fraction things and percent. I only know how to add, minus, multiply and divide but other than those 4, uh uh, nothing. But I'd like to guess that 10% of what number is 6.3 question. The answer is 63. Ciao!
