Site Unseen?

Any website gurus out there this morning?
I am no geek, but I know enough html to get a VERY basic site put together, and I can get it uploaded using my FTP. What I can't figure out is how to create and upload the page without having to have .html extension at the end of every page.
I'm using BlueVoda to create the pages, then have to save the pages with the .html extension and I'm using Ipswitch WS_FPT Pro to upload them. I'm a real novice at the whole FTP process, so I'm sure it's something simple, but it totally escapes me.
I want my pages to end with just whatever.com/whatever instead of whatever.com/whatever.html. I can't submit them to google to crawl because they recognize it as a file instead of a URL, and of course it just looks stupid anyway.

Hi Ldyjarhead,
It has only been three months since I have learned how to use the computer so I haven't a clue whats is all about, if you think you look stupid, how do you think I feel? I don't even know how copy and paste or cut and paste never mind about what you want to do, I just feel helpless that I cannot help you.

Well, you're building the pages in html, so you need to tell the computer to use that set of rules when transmitting the data... but other than that, I'm not really sure what the answer is. I had a look at my own website, and all the pages other than index show the html extension in the address bar.

Yes, I did all the programming in html, although Geocities offers templates, as well.
