which is better, starting a bad discussion or starting no discussion?

well, maybe the best answer is starting neither a bad discussion nor 'no discussion'. we want always to start a good and quality topic which will gets nice responses or even goes further to become a real discussion. but things is not always that perfect. there are times when there is no idea for new discussion coming in our mind, and the only thing coming in our mind is just a stupid idea for a discussion. so, what will you do? to start or not to start? anyway, i just think if we only start a discussion when we have a really good and quality topic, it will end up the lack of discussions here. if it would continue, as we also avoid the similar discussions, things will even go worse. and eventually it will end up no discussion started here. we would have to dig out the old dusty discussions in the bottom layers of mylot folders so, what do you think? is it about time to allow and encourage more discussions started on mylot, regardless how low their quality? or we are still optimistic and keep posting the quality post only?

Define bad discussion. Some that we think are bad discussions end up getting the most responses. If you have something to discuss I don't see anything wrong with posting it. If you don't post it you'll never know if it was a good one or a bad one.

yeah, good points! that really happened. a friend started a discussion, wondering why amongst her thoughtful and meaningful discussions, the topic getting most responses is an 'ordinary' discussion about movie . so, yes, we'll never know till we start it. thanks for responding

I think both are OK as some discussions we think to be good ones may not get any responses and vice versa. Also I start a discussion only when in doubt, or feel like sharing my feelings

yes, bad and good is not so easily defined. it depends on many factors including who judge it. i agree with you that if we doubt about something, that's the right time to start a discussion regarding it. thanks for responding

Hi Sutan, I just say it, what it is in my mind, when im sad, mad or have good idea to post. When i sad, i wan't someone out there in the world notice me and give me confort, cause im alone, no boyfriend (yet), and such a pathetic life. I know it was't 100% im pathetic, but i want to changes that in to 80% by posting at mylot. When i'm mad, There. i just say it. Not because i was kinky or big head, but its a sign for you all to (friends, i need help here!) I never post a quality post really, and what it's looks like i still don't know But being here, just like talking to the highest, I believe there's a God inside you all and God answer my doubt and questions through you.

I think the effort counts, Sometimes you don't know if a discussion is going to be good, awesome or mediocre or just down right sucky. It you try at least then you know. Plus if everyone refused to start discussions because they might be bad...mylot would be pretty boring place!

well, that can be right, just start it and let us see. sometimes a silly started topic ends up a real discussions because of the response to it and the comment on the responses. and the discussions getting lots of responses are not always thoughtful discussions. they can be casual and daily topic about movie, tv program etc. well, i don't know.....thanks for responding

I think it depends on a lot of things. If a myLotter starts a silly or bad discussion because they want to earn some money from it, and if they do get some earnings from such discussion, then they probably don't think that starting such discussion was a bad idea. I must admit that I often wonder why the discussions I consider silly got a lot of responses but then it also tempts me to think that I should just post a similar discussion but I still try not to. It also depends on what standards we have for a quality discussion. I know there may be a lot of myLotters who may consider all my discussions silly but I don't put them out there if I'm not happy with what I posted. My idea of a thought-provoking discussion may be idiotic to others. In my case, I'd rather not start a discussion than put up a half-thought post.

i try to only post quality and interesting posts but i have posted some lesser quality kinds due to not being able to think of any and i figure something is better than nothing.. only if its not embarrassinly stupid that is.. if its gonna be so stupid it sounds like a kindergartener then i wont post it.. whats sad is some of the crappier ones i have done have made more money that the better ones.. you just never know how people will be
