Oil companies take advantage again!

Before Ike even makes landfall oil companies are raking in money raising gas prices just in case the refineries in Texas take a hit by the hurricane. You would think the oil companies would at least wait to see what happens with the hurricane before gouging the heck out of us. And with the help of the media there is mass hysteria with people running to the gas pumps to fill up. So not only is gas up to $6 a gallon in some areas but we are almost completely out of gas where I live. This is just insane! I absolutely refuse to buy gas at the prices they are now. I will stay in my house and walk to the store before I let the oil companies take advantage of me over a natural disaster. And luckily I can stay home since I work from home. I just feel for those who are having to pay for gas at the prices they are right now. I can't wait for the day that we're not dependent on oil and can tell the oil companies to putt it where the sun doesn't shine!

The people driving the cost up are the individual gas station owner, not the oil companies.

I've never been able to figure it out, if there's even a possibility of something bad happening the price of gas goes up instantly but if something positive happens it takes forever for it to fall. To me, whether it's the oil companies or the local gas station owners who are screwing us, my wallet is just as empty! The prices here in Pa. haven't gone up yet, at least not as of last night, but today isn't over yet either...lol! I'm with you, I have some very choice words for the oil companies and I also can't wait until we can tell them to shove it! Annie

Thanks for the BR! Have you noticed how gas is on the way back up again? Annie

oh well... i think it is happening everywhere... the gas price here is also ridiculous and changing by each day... it is like playing with the stock market... it is so ridiculous that we have to pay so much just to get our car moving... i won't be willing to pay $6 a gallon as well for my gas... i prefer to take public transport or walk... it is just ridiculous... take care and have a nice day...

You are perfectly right to take a stand against the rising cost of fuel. Unfortunately some people have to travel by car to get to work so I suppose they will have no choice but to pay the absorbitant prices. Here in Ireland, the cost of fuel has dropped slightly but it is still quite expensive. Unleaded petrol costs €1.27 per litre and that varies from town to town. Diesel is even more expensive and it used to cost a lot less that petrol. I just don't know where it is all going to end.

Profit is king. If they are not doing it someone else will. There is no generosity where profit is concerned. The bottom line is the profit and thats it no matter what. Good luck in these stormy times.

That would be a great day for all of us. I had to make a quick trip to my local Krogers store yesterday evening and I thought that there had been some kind of accident as cars were lined up everywhere and it was impossible to get into the parking area. Turned out be drivers trying to get gas. The price was $4.49 a gallon up a dollars from earlier in the day. As Krogers give a 10 cent discount per gallon to all its customers and prices supposed to rise to $5.00 by today it was packed. I am so glad I filled up my car at $3.39 last week.(Kroger price)
