My husband and I have been watching some biographies on TV of many great singers of all genres such a Luciano Pavarotti, Elvis Presley, Roy Orbison, Johnny Cash. I love many singers but my favorites are (in no particular order): Luciano Pavarotti - opera - this man, in my opinion, is the greatest opera singer to ever grace the face of the earth. Josh Groban - contemporary - his deep, easy, rich tones are so beautiful. The first time I heard him on the radio, I was in love with his voice. Lee Mead - musical theater, contemporary - I discovered him, by accident, by looking through YouTube to find someone else. He won a contest on British TV to win the role of Joseph in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Gene Pitney - rock and roll - his voice was so unique and for such a young teen, his voice was so powerful and moving. Roy Orbison - rock and roll - another singer with that cry in his voice. When he sings "Running Scared" and "Crying", I have goose bumps. Sammy Davis, Jr. - contemporary - out of that generation of popular singers (Dean, Frankie), he had the greatest voice, ever. His voice could cross into many genres of music. My all-time favorite, number 1 singer. Frank Sinatra - contemporary - okay, he was damned good. Smooth as silk. Dean Martin - contemporary - something about his voice just made it fun to hear him sing, like he just loved what he did and it came through in his voice. I never missed his TV show. Michael Ball - musical theater - He has performed in many Andrew Lloyd Weber musicals and his voice is just astounding. Colm Wilkinson - musical theater - when he sings "Bring Him Home, from Les Miserablés, I can't stop crying. It's a masterpiece. I have others that I like a lot but these are the ones I love to listen to over and over. How about you? Who and why do you like them. Oh, and give me some content on your answers. It makes it more fun to read.

My grandpa who passed away. He was a semi-professional singer with a sound similar to that of Dean Martin or Perry Como. Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Pavarotti, Andrea Bocelli, Johnny Mathis, Nat "King" Cole, Marvin Gaye, Phil Collins, Billy Joel, Johnny Cash, Garth Brooks, George Strait, Keith Whitley, George Jones, Toby Keith, John Mayer ... That's the best I can list off the top of my head at the moment. Why? Because not only were/are they incredibly talented, but they were/are also wonderful musical story tellers. The ability they have/had to "paint" with their lyrics and voices is astounding.

Oh, I loved Dean Martin and Perry Como, so I wish I could have heard your grandfather sing. Did he sing to you when you were young? My grandmother had a beautiful voice and I loved hearing her sing when she was doing chores. She never sang professionally but had the voice of an angel.

He sang all the time. :) We would sing "Unforgettable" by Natalie and Nat King Cole together. It's difficult for me to listen to or sing nowadays, but I still do, and try to smile whenever I hear it.

I was brought up on a healthy diet of Elvis, Gene Pitney, Roy Orbison, Neil Diamond and Johnny O'Keefe, to name a few. Although I am ony 25, these singers are in my opinion probably the greatest I've ever heard. There are many young singers nowdays who are very impressive also. However my favourite of all time is Elvis. Particularly 70s era Elvis where his voice was so deep and strong, although his personal life was in turmoil.

My favorites are Johnny Cash and Jim Morrison. Both were rebels and both had very interesting lives. Jim Morrison was my absolute favorite for a long time, but I discovered Johnny Cash a few years ago and now he's right up there with Morrison. I think I like them because they lived how they wanted and were never afraid to be themselves.

Interesting, you equate the life style of a singer with the quality of his voice?
