Do you steam your rice or do you use the quick cooking rice? I have so much long grain rice, but I always grab the quick cooking when I am making a meal. I seem to do something wrong, and it doesn't dome out nice and fluffy. I did use the long grain one day when I maid jambalaya, but I think I overcooked the rice, it was a little mushy. do you use quick rice, or do you steam your rice. Can you give me some tips on how to make the perfect rice?

hello sudalunts, i love to cook and being spanish i do make a lot of rice. i actually use the real long grain rice(mahatma). i don't like and refuse to eat instant rice if i can get away with it. i don't boil my rice. i don't even cook it in a pot. i use a large skillet. if you like just plain white rice with no flavoring, just put a cup of raw rice into a skillet with 2cups of salted boiling water. after putting the rice in, stirr it well till the rice is mixed well and spread evenly in the skillet, you may want to add a little bit of butter if wanted. bring to a boil and cover with lid, lower the heat to simmer or low for 20 min. i use a skillet because this allows the rice to spread out and cook evenly. you don't have cooked or burned rice at the bottom and mushy rice on top. this way it comes out all cooked and fluffy. try it. if your an adventurer, use olive oil, stir fry the rice and add chopped onion, green peppers, garlic, add browned meat to it or even tomatos. you can put just about anything you want but remember to cook it in a large skillet. i hope it works for you. let me know how it comes out if you decide to try it this way.
