A friend of mine who works in a bank is facing financial difficulties. They are stretching to make their ends meet. However, it’s not the first time that her husband buys expensive gifts for her or expensive items for himself. As a result there are always a couple of bounced cheques each month. Her surname is not common and therefore this is causing a great embarrassment for her with the rest of her colleagues who do process the cheques. She is also being ridiculed by her work colleagues. What can she do?

a couple of bounced cheques every month? no wonder she is ridiculed. one a month is already bad, let alone a couple. especially if they are having financial difficulty, they should stick to strict budget, which is what my husband and I have been doing this year because we made a big mistake in 2006 and we are stil paying for it. bounced cheque is usually charged dishonored fee, so that's charges on top of the bills. if they don't work it out soon, they will be in deeper trouble.

Thanks for your feedback. That's what I have been advising in a nice way. Stop spending otherwise you 'll be in bigger trouble.

While it is never good to bounce a check, I think I would try to stop bouncing them. Maby she should change banks, just because she works there dosnt mean she has to bank there. I also think I would speak with the manager as I dont think that employees personal business should be discussed openly.

Spending money that you do not have is not a good practice. I would suggest that she close her checking account, and open another one without her husband's name on it. Tear up all of the old checks, so that he will not be able to spend when there is no money to spend. This can become a criminal offense if it is continuous. She is at the risk of losing her job as well. Drastic means for drastic acts, she has to stop it from being done now.
