Well my husband and I pretty much have everything together (except for retirement accounts that have to be in our separate names). His sister and her husband have separate bank accounts. Don't know how they pay the bills that way, but none of my business. Anyway which system do you think is better? What works for you?

I handle all the money and I hate it. We have joint checking accounts. The savings are in my name, mutual funds in his. I wasn't there when he opened that account and the same happened with the savings. We have a great trust so it's not a big deal.

I handle the money stuff too, not too fond of it. But it beats cleaning bathrooms.

My hubby and I just got married. But before we get married, he treated me as his wife already. For the reason were I own what he earns, I have access of everything he have. That made me feel very trustworthy person. Now that we are married, everything what he have is mine too. When it comes to money, he handed it all to me. I just opened an account here in US and now we have a joint account. Sometimes if I tell him "its yours, this is mine" or vice versa that made him upset or mad because for him, whatevever he works and earn for is mine to.

sounds like he's a really giving person... I have some things that are 'mine' though and my husband mostly respects that.

I prefer that we have separate accounts. We do have a common budget. My partner and I contribute the same amount for electricity, telephone, internet bills plus other expenses. Whenever we want to buy something for the house, we have another separate joint account and each one of us is expected to save a certain amount of money per month. When we reach our target we proceed to buy that item. In this way we don't interfere with each other, what to do with the little left from our monthly wage.

We have a joint bank account ,we have had it for years and have always worked our finances together,I think it is better to have the money combined then it is ours, and not his or hers,it can cause rows if one says they are paying for something extra,we have some friends who do it seperately and they are always rowing about it.

I really wonder how they can keep track of that!
