Hiya friends & MyLotters! You won't believe it, but in my village the power went down 2 hours ago, and we're still in a blackout now! Normally if it is a small problem, then the'd allready fixed it, but they didn't yet! I've heard from my friend from other side of the village 2 poles have fallen down and the cables snapped, and they couldn't fix it fast, and it would take at least 2 days!! So now my question; what do you do and how do you feel during such a blackout? Are you scared, you don't care, or you'll just be bored? I don't really have to worry about it, because we have a generator with 40 litres of benzin in it, so we're good for almost 2 days of power! But when we didn't had it, I'd usually start going outside and talk with my friends and hang around at places with them..or I listen to my MP3 player, or light a candle and start reading a good book.. Now what would you do?? :)

Hi slot, I grew up in a place where blackout is very regular,,LOL! It's like almost every 2 weeks! So, we used to hang out with Family members and spend time playing cards and then when we are tired playing, we are going to read books!

Wow, almost the same like with my family! :) Anyway here's an UPDATE of the blackout here..there is still no power and not only in this village, but in more villages, and I found out how it has come the power went down; those poles indeed went down but in the neighbour village, some criminals have been stealing the oil tank, filled with 5000 litres of oil! Which the electricity somehow needs here (I don't know how it works exactly)..Anyway the mayor of my village contacted the power provider, and they said it will take at least ti' tomorrow afternoon! But we already went to the city for a couple of hours (so we're not spending gas), and we've bought 30 litres of gas! So even if the power stays down until SUNDAY, we're still fine LOL!

I am in USA on the 14th of this month, September we had a horrible storm that tore the power lines down to ove a million customers. Our power was out for 59 hours, everything in the refrigerator had to be thrown out. MY friend got power on Wednesday, that is 10 days after the storm. Today there is still 900+ that are still out of power. Now when you have to be with out power for that long, it is a problem. I had to stay in this house by my self with some candles burning for 2 nights by myself. It is spooky. I read by my flashlight. I do appreciate the power that we have now. How people got along with out it in the old days I guess we are lucky now to have power to run the A/C if nothing else. It did bring some of the neighbors together as I seen them cooking out side on the grill and inviting the others to join. Hope your power comes on real soon so you won't have to be without it over night, believe me the time goes slow when you sitting here at night with nothing to do.

Wow, I believe I have heard about it in the news! Didn't this happen in California or Cincinatti..? I'm not sure but that's what coming up in my mind..! Anyway, it's great to see how terrible things are getting people more together, don't you agree? With electricity people are usually hangig for the TV go to work, eat and sleep, and without power, they are actually starting being more social! It's a beautiful thing to see in my opinion..

Im from the United States and we dont get many blackouts, if we do it is in the Winter. When it happens we play family games or read. I personally like it as there is nothing else to do so it brings in more family time.

I actually kind of like the outages. With no access to electricity my family will actually do things besides tv, video games, etc..We have a closet full of board games, puzzles, cards ,etc that actually get used during power outages. and like you said it also gets people outside and talking to their neighbors. so although I always hope it doesn't last long enough for the food in the fridge to spoil, I don't mind blackouts at all.

I do agree with that, because it's kind of the same with my family. When there's just normal power, we always sit behind the computer or laptop or watch TV or we're just not home. But when there's a blackout (when we didn't had a generator yet), we go play card games like poker, family games or just have nice talk with eachother about things that we wanna do..So sometimes in a while I wouldn't mind to have it as well, having a blackout, AND not having any gas in the tank anymore ;) Nice comment!

We had a major storm hit our area two years ago and our immediate area was our of power for at least four days. Other areas were our for over a week. It was during the summer and a lot of folks started removing food from their freezers before it went bad and just started cooking and sharing with the neighbors. We all pretty much stuck together, took turns traveling to get ice so at least we could have cold beverages. It was definitely a time for everyone to get to know each other better and I'm sure it could have been a lot worse.

Hello slot100, We have blackout almost everyweek during the day. I don't know if it's a part of energy conservation or the power plant is doing a maintenance. I still feel bad when there is a blackout because you can't watched TV and do your work on the internet. But you have to made some adjustment and think about the advantage of no electricity for a few days. You have now time to do your housework, play outside and go outdoor. It's different from what you always do when there is electricity but it is still fun. At night, you can light up candles and play some old boardgames like, scrabble, chess, etc. It is always a challange when you I am in a new situation like a balck out but still I can made some adjustment and adapt. Regards.

Hello, It's ok. Our power is back normally. Our power comes from hydroelectric plant and when the water level is low, they ration electricity, that's why we have some scheduled blackout. Regards.

That's quite bad..have you contacted the power plant about what the situation is overthere? Because with sudden blackouts, electric things can break down because of the sudden switchoff..And how about all the food?It will all be a lost! So I hope they will make a claim for you or something.. I do really think that you should contact the power plant, or the provider of your electricity! Because this really is a very bad thing.. I wish you the best of all! Thanks for your post.

hmm, during blackout, usually, I feel bored than scared, it didn't bother me much if not for having nothing to do and sometimes it was uncomfortable to sleep when it is hot and there are mosquitoes. But usually, during those times, I just lay on the sofa or my bed talking to my siblings or parents or play some games on my phone while waiting for the power to resume or for me to fall asleep. Fortunately though, it was rare to have a blackout in our place. Happy weekend!

We were without electrical power for 100 hours after hurricane Ike made its way through Ohio. It was the first time in the history of the state that a storm of that strength came through. They said that we had winds gusting to 80 miles per hour. And 90% of the homes and businesses in our area were without power that first afternoon. Power was restored on most of my street after 100 hours, but there were 6 homes that didn't have power until the 8th day! Here, we spent quite a bit of time outside visiting with neighbors. There was a bright full moon, so in the evenings it was actually lighter outside than inside. I read a lot and listened to the radio. And once the power was restored at the library, I was able to use a computer there for an hour. The only time I was without power longer was years ago when I lived in Houston. A hurricane came through and we were without water for 3 days and without electric for 3 weeks. Then too, neighbors spent time outdoors together. We pooled our foods (that were going to go bad) and cooked them all up on grills and shared them.

Blackouts during the summer are worse to me than winter. Because you can lose all of your food or frozen goods with no power. At least in winter you can sit things outside to keep cold. Years ago we had a bad ice storm where I lived. We were without power for three days, and we had a small child then too. Luckily we had a fireplace and plenty of wood. We kept the fire going and camped out in front of it. We roasted hot dogs in the fire place, and kept our food cold on our deck since we didn't have electric for the fridge. The worst problem was we had a well, so without power no water. But, we survived. If its a short power outtage I figure its a great time to take a nap.

Hi, our residential area here also had a blackout about 2 hours ago. I was myLotting, when whosh...everything went black! It was about 7pm local time. I was alone at home; my hubby had gone out for his weekly exercises. He has taken the car, so I couldn't drive out. So I made sure all the doors and windows are locked; and found that we didn't even have candles - so I can't even read. So I went upstairs to our bedroom, and played games on my mobile phone. Seemed like the only thing to do! Fortunately the power came back - one and half hours later!. Hope the power is back for your village too!

I play with Moochie, our dog. He's pretty much scared everytime blackout strikes. Sometimes if Moochie is nowhere near me, i just plug in my cellphone's headset then listen to music i uploaded. I prepared playlists so i won't get tired of it easily.

He becomes upset. Maybe because he can sense that it's going to rain. Blackout follows rain especially here in our city so i guess that explains it all.

ah wow! What a sweet dog you've got! Looks a bit like mine..he looks very humanic! You can see when he's sick, or when he notices something is going to happen, he knows when we are sick, and he knows when we wanna play with them! Dogs are very cute and special animals in my opinion..but sorry for going off-topic! lol..

Wow, that's really special! How comes your dog is scared during a blackout? Because I don't he could even notice, because he sees everything in black & white right? It would be really special if he does notice it..You should make a movie of it! lol.. When I listen to music, I used to just choose out the songs i like (which are allready on my cellphone ofcourse), and just put it on shuffle :)

I like blackouts actually. If it's out of the blue I might be a tiny bit worried, on more of an alert than say if it's during a storm. But overall I quite enjoy them...because everyone comes out and is forced to find alternative means to the tv and computer for entertainment. During our last one, I went outside on the porch and read a book via glowstick lol. Couples came out and argued about their babies, a man across the street got out his guitar and started singing. Actual signs of life in the city! Whoo! And after awhile everyone calms, and then there's finally absolute silence. Which is something you don't get often in the city.

I wouldn't say that I'm that keen on blackouts, who is? But, I'm prepared for them now when they happen! I recently purchased this torch that doesn't require any batteries. You just shake the torch backwards and forwards and this powers it up. There was a period when we had a serious blackout and the power was down for a few hours. This did create problems as the food in my freezer slowly started defrosting! I guess there's nothing you can do as such in this situation. I just sit down, eyes closed, muttering to myself and waiting for the power to be turned back on so that I can sit in front of the tv once more! Andrew

I would take this opportunity to rest and relax. Of course, enjoy the natural environment. =), as my location is kind of hot and humid, thus i must with an ancient manual fan so i did not get too hot. LOL.

I hate blackouts. Yesterday evening I was responding to some discussions when the power went down, it lasted 5hours, major bummer! Such a hassle. I feel like without electricity Im completely vulnerable and can't do nothing, not to mention that it gets really hot it here without electricity. What I usually do in those situation I just lay in my bed and listen to my mp4 and pray that the power will come back on so I can mylot again. ^____________^
