Falling from a great height? What's the strangest dream you've ever had?

September 26, 2008 3:33pm CST
Woke up the other day and had the strangest dream the funny thing is it never made sense one minute I was in one place the next minute i'm doing something somewhere else and sometimes I forget what i've dreamed about after ten minutes of being awake. So it got me thinking what's the strangest dream or nightmare you've ever had? The scariest nightmare I had was falling from a great height in my sleep thankfully though I didn't hit the ground. Apparently there's a myth that if you hit the ground in your dreams your die in your sleep? Anyone know if there's any truth in this?

hi metalchick! i think the weirdest dream i had that i can remember the most was i had the power to leap so high, like from the ground to the top of a high tree and someone was chasing me and i went to places i've been before only i was either in the roof or a tree. i have always dreamed that i can fly or leap so high. but only in that dream that i was being chased by persistent chasers. i've also had a few nightmares and one of them was someone was about to kill me. .

Hmm..that was actually the most scariest and disturbing dream/nightmare I've ever had in my life!'It started as a normal dream, and like most of the time, I soon noticed that I was dreaming. Only the weiird thing was, the moment I start noticing that I'm dreaming I usually wake up, but not this time! I couldn't wake up, whatever I tried. I was back in my High School years and I was 'popular'. Actually, I was so popular, that people wanted to kill me, and it did'happen a couple of times as well, and I must say, I could feel the pain, and I was never so scared in my life! It hurted so much, and it was feeling so strange..I was shot, strangled, stabbed and hanged..sorry for mentioning these disturbing things, but it was awful for me as well..After feeling I was dreaming for WEEKS (I've actually was feeling like that!), my parents were able to wake me up. I asked them what happened and they didn't know it but my whole body was red and I had a fever..and I was sleeping for straight 3 days without waking up..I can still remember that dream back with every single detail, and I hope it will never happen again..

Sometimes I still have these kind of dreams, when I'm not feeling well, or when I'm a bit depressed. Very weird but then I'm used of having nightmares. But I'm not so afraid anymore of them luckily :) And thank God, I don't had ever such a long dream anymore! I sleep normally now..maybe a lil' long (10 hours a day), but that's just because I'm lazy xD

I haven't heard of that myth but I hope it's not true. The worst dream I ever had was to dream of myself dreaming. It happened years ago and during that period of time, I kept having the same dream. I was aware of myself dreaming and I tried to wake up from my dream. When I finally 'woke up' from my dream, I found myself yet in another dream. It felt like I could never wake up. Thank God, I'm not having that sort of dream anymore.

Glad you have stopped having that dream. It must be pretty scary not knowing if you will wake up.

What a coincidence me and my children were just talking about strange dreams that we have had earlier today. A couple of days ago i had a very weird dream that i was in a Dr Who episode. I was in a Victorian village and something was firing fire balls down the street. So every one was going into the houses to hide. I went into the house with someone to hide as well and spent the night there. In the morning i came out and there was a food van that was serving breakfast. There was two men there and someone said "The Doctor is over there. So i run over to say hello and when he turned round it wasn't Doctor who it was my partner who was standing there. Then i woke up.

I always think dreams are perculiar as you never know what's going to get thrown in the mix next. Thanks for your response.

In my dream I always die. Either some monster is after me or a calamity happens to me. I've be crushed in an earthquake, burned alive, and drowned in the ocean. I don't really know why it happens. But I always wake up the minute I die. Like you, I always forget what I have dream about. I sometimes remember the gist of it as well as some scenes that stand out, but my dream always fade away in a few minutes.

Having Lindsay Lohan as my girlfriend. I don't know, out of nowhere i just dreamed of her. It appeared that she was my classmate and that i was telling her not to mind those rumors about her smoking or drinking because i know they're not true. Well as fir your question, i think we all had a dream especially like falling from a great height. I'm not sure but it could cause a heart attack which will make you die in your sleep.

I have many dreams about falling from great heights, but i din die in my dreams.. Because while i was experiencing free falling, i was actually half awake, and i'm feeling the actual feeling of falling.. Thus i will often curl myself up very tight, and hoping to break my fall so that i won't die or even inhure myself.. haha =D So most of the time, by time i landed, i'm already awake, and my heart will be pumping away, but i'm still sleeping in my real life.. Do u understand what i'm talking about?? hehe It's just like half sleeping and half dreaming state whereby the feeling is very real and yer i know it's not real.. hehe =D BUt, i do really like the feeling of free falling.. haha

Strangest dream i had is when i dream of being chase by monsters. In my dream i tried as hard as i can to lift my hands and fly. It was scary coz those monsters that were chasing me almost got my legs. I will never forget that dream.

I dream about falling from great heights all the time, but I never hit the ground. I don't really know if it is true or not with regard to people dying in their sleep if they hit the ground when they are falling in their dreams. But I do agee with you when you say it's really scary. I usually wake up before I hit the ground.

Actually, that myth is wrong. I've done alot of dream research and it's impossible to fall, hit the ground, and die in your sleep when it's a dream. The strangest nightmare I had was about 5 years ago, and I will never forget it. In my dream, my sister, mother, and father had gotten killed brutally by my grandmother and aunt. Then, across my mom's body was written "Sl**" As soon as I looked around to look at my grandmother and aunt, they started running after me. The weird thing is that I don't have a sense of smell at all, but in the dream, I can smell the blood as clear as day.

That sounds like a really scary and odd sort of dream...well nightmare. Bet your glad you woke up. Thanks for putting my mind at rest about the falling in your sleep thing...can sleep easy now

Hi! Just like a couple of days ago I've had the strangest dream well more like disturbing dream that is bizarrely still vivid to me up until this moment. In my dream I was back in highschool when suddenly it rained really hard that the whole campus became flooded, and everyone was trapped in the school. Everyone was stranded for what seems like weeks, so we were getting really hungry. I suddenly ended up in the principal's office where I found a big freeze like the ones in stores where you can store ice creams etc but this one was really really huge. Anyway, the principal with two men came in and for some reasons I ended up hiding in the freezer, inside were big blocks of meat the shape of big frozen turkeys. They suddenly opened the freezer and began dumping a a fresh big bag of meat, and what I saw was horrible it was human body parts. My principal turned out to be a cannibal and she wanted to make the other kids eat human flesh so that they would turn like her. The last thing I remember before waking up was that I was running for my life. Sometimes, dreams are really weird, but can't help to wonder if they do have some sort of message or distinct meaning.

I completely agree I often wonder about that. Sometimes find that something that has happened to me during the day ends up in one of dreams later on that night. Your dream does sound a bit horrific bet your glad you woke up.

Some people theorize that if you convince yourself of something in your dreams you will see it manifested in your real life such as if you cut yourself in a dream and really believe it was real you could wake up with a cut in the exact same place. Do I personally believe this? Not exactly no. I believe that you can die from fright, so in that way if you do fall from a great height, if you were frightened enough, it could cause you to die in reality. In this way that myth would have some truth. But since most people know that they are dreaming, it does not happen that often. Of course if you have a heart problem and something in your dreams frightens you enough, you could die. It all depends on mind over matter. If you believe something enough it will most likely happen, but if you convince yourself that something is not real or that it couldn't possible happen then it most likely won't. As long as you take charge of your dreams you can direct them where you want them to go.

Thanks for your response and for your opinion wont feel so bad if I have that dream again now.
