I heard about the gas shortage on TV a couple of nights ago, but I haven't seen it here in Virginia, at least not yet. They did this once before... I believe it was in 1973 or '74. They claimed there was a gas shortage, but it was discovered that there were many oil tankers sitting in the ocean just offshore of the U.S. These tankers were FULL of oil! I'm not sure why the government was doing that. Maybe it was the energy companies, trying to drive the prices up. Maybe that's what is happening right now. I know that there was less oil being produced off of the Texas coast because of Hurricane Ike, but that happened during Katrina, too, and we didn't suffer from a gas shortage then! I believe the gas is there, they're just not giving us access to it, just as in '73 or '74. Every time there is a hurricane, the price gougers have a field day! Our gasoline prices went up by 20 cents a gallon right BEFORE Hurricane Ike hit! Then, right afterwards, the price came back down. I'd love to know who's doing this and why. Well, the 'why' is greed. Pure and simple. Our country is going to heck in a handbasket because of greed. It won't be long before the United States is no longer considered a 'super power'. I don't care where the U.S. fits in the scheme of things across the world, but I DO care about what our government is doing to it's citizens! We're the ones suffering from their little games.

I live in Alabama just across the Georgia line, and we are short on gas here but not completely out. You might go to a station one day and they are out and the next day they have gas, it doesn't seem to bothering the motorist here because there are still a lot of cars on the highway going back and forth. I am hearing on the news that Atlanta, Georgia really is having a big problem with gas shortages.

We are not having a problem where I live in Missouri. Gas went up a ridiculous amount over night a little over a week ago and people were buying gas like crazy for a few days, but now it is back down to lower than it was before. It was $3.45 the last time I looked yesterday.
