No. There is no way that any organisation can make money out of that kind of message. It is a big hoax and you wonder why people send out those messages if they know it's not true (as they must do, of course). I will tell you why! It is an excellent way of gathering valid email addresses for spamming! Next time you see one of those emails, take a look at how many addresses it contains! I have counted over 100 addresses included in the body of that email all because the person who forwarded it did what nearly everyone does ... they pasted all of their friends addresses into the To: box and then sent it on. The next person did the same and so on. That silly hoax email may be forwarded a dozen times or more before it lands in the box of someone who likes to try and make a living out of sending out spam. Of course, they are not a friend of yours ... no way! ... but what do you really know about all the people in your contacts list? (And what about the people in the contacts lists of YOUR friends?) I suspect that these people masquerade as friendly guys who are happy to add you to their contacts if you add them to yours. They just LOVE having these jokes and 'Friendship' mails sent on to them and encourage you to do so ... after all, it's just a bit of harmless fun, isn't it? I'm not suggesting that most of the people who love to forward or receive this kind of mail is like that. Most of the people are people you know personally - family or friends - and I'm quite sure are not into that kind of business. No, they will be people who you have met on some forum or other and, for whatever reason, have exchanged email addresses with. It is likely that, if you have them in your contacts list, you will know them slightly; it's also likely that they came over as friendly and offered to mail you a joke or something - in other words, they made the first move. It's possible, too, that most of them are male. There are many, many kinds of mail that are sent out (like Noah's dove) to gather addresses. Some are jokes, some are 'friendship' mails, many are hoax virus alerts. Almost always they encourage you to forward them to friends, often with threats of bad luck (or worse) if you don't. The solution ... or at least, the way to make sure that they go no further than you, is NOT to forward them ever! If, however, you MUST for some reason, then take some time to edit the mail so that NO other email addresses or signatures are in it, then put all of the people you want to forward it to in the Bcc: box ... NOT the To: or the Cc: box! Put your OWN address in the To: box (in other words, send it to yourself and 'Blind Copy' it to everyone else. That way, every recipient sees only your address and their own.
