I have heard the humor, people in our place was so eager to have a 5 peso coin, and turned it into a ring, lucky my mother got 1 5 peso coin, and she bring it to a smith to be crafted, now its already a ring, i've noticed that the ring never fades it color, its gets shiner everyday, maybe because was cleaned everyday by water, because everyday my mother wash the dishes. that's 2 years ago, until now i still see that she wearing the ring.

hi guys this is Janice Monastrial from Batangas, you know what, for all of these issues, we can't deny that if we say "coin or coins" we're not giving more importance especially spending it, its really easy to spend anywhere, anytime, this issue is just giving coins a chance to have their importance to us, more people are searching for this coins co'z of that said mixed "gold" in it..., but the sense is the "gold" we are mentioning is that the "importance" of coins not just having a smaller value, but without coins, bills are useless!! Think of it guys!! NOW, COINS ARE IMPORTANT, WITH OR WITHOUT GOLD, GIVE IMPORTANCE IN IT, COLLECT AND SAVE IT!

is this really true because i will definitely look for 5 peso coins in my mothers purses..she has lots of coins everyday and there are many 5 pesos and 10 pesos in it...i heard this rumor also a long time ago but never really heard someone confirmed that there is indeed a gold content in it...if this is true then i will be keeping all of the 5peso coins and make a big gold bar.

Well ive heard that it has gold mix with the coin but my uncle told me that its not true. Jewelry made from coins dont really fade and if you rub it in a rubber it really sparkles. Due to its components its not gold i guess its more on brass.

this is certainly untrue! we can always make any coin to rings because it has elements on it. why would BSP use our gold reserves & put it in our coins? come on guys! sentido kumon. we can make use of our gold reserves far better than that. i remember even the big 1 peso coin that was circulated before can be minted & turned into rings. the main composition of our 5 peso coin are the following: 70% copper, 24.5% zinc & 5.5% nickel. and the composition of our 10 peso coin are: (ring) 75% copper, 25% nickel (core)92% copper, 6% aluminum & 2% nickel. do you see any gold content in that? we must remember that these coins represent our country, our blood & of who we are. and if we disrespect it, it's like disrespecting our race. regardless if it's 1, 5 or 10 & 25 centavos; 1, 5, 10 pesos or any of our banknotes, this is our money.

I really don't think that Central Bank would put gold in a coin that is worth 5 pesos only. I think they manufacture coin that is a little bit less that true value of the coin else they would lose the value of it. That is the reason why our coins keeps on getting smaller since the value of the coin is not equal to cost of producing that coin. If Central bank would add gold in the 5 and 10 peso coin then the value of the gold that may contain it would be equivalent to 5 or 10 peso or even lesser.

I don't believe it. It is made of some other material/s (I forgot). If it is true then we would be having problems with it, like hoarding coins, which is not good to our economy.

I have heard about that. My grandma would always look for those kind of coins. She said she would make it a ring but she never had one. I also don't anyone who have rings from 2001 coins. And realistically speaking, I don't think BSP would do that.

I don't know really if it's true and it's not only in the 2001 10 peso coin but also with the 2006. I know some people who would exchange the coins for a higher value. I have also seen others having made it into a ring. I haven't tried exchanging the coin and have it made into a ring but someone gave me a ring made of the 1974 1 peso coin which I gave that someone for collection purposes. There is a law against mutilation of coins but I guess not everyone gives a damn about it.
