I'm just wondering if anyone's still on dial-up. Broadband has been around for quite a long time now after all. I'm on cable and my friends keep saying DSL is faster.

I don't see anyone using Dial-Up anymore. I believe Cable is faster than DSL in terms of the maximum speed both can have. It depends on what package you subscribe to. Maybe your friends subscribes to 3Mbps DSL when you only do 1.5Mbps. There is also Fibre Optics Cable which is hell lot faster than cable, but due to its complex installation, the subscription is very expensive.

Some people still use dial-up. I have had cable for several years and every so often they increase the speed. Speed depends on your compter and the websites you are connected with. I have had downloads in the MB/sec range quite often. Although I have never had DSL, I'm pretty sure that dollar for dollar cable is faster.

Dial-up is still cool. That was the first thing I knew how to setup. My dad's an IT at At&t, and I learned some from him. I found dial-up accounts easier to setup. But now, I have DSL and it has changed my life! I am an avid game player, and you probably aren't familiar with the Dreamcast. It was the first Online Gaming console, so it had an internal 56k modem. I run a cable from that to my pc modem, then with some software I can get a full flat 28.8k connection!(The modem is supposed to be 56k, but I think it is capped at 28.8). I never get faltering connections, just a steady solid 28.8! All I can say is "Sega, bring back PSO!!!"

Well although I do not use it a friend uses it I still have a dial up account. My friend uses it out on the farm because that is all that is available out there. Saying DSL is faster is not always true. My mother in law has DSL and her internet is slower than mine and I have cable. There are alot of factors that can make a difference, like what speed the computer is and how many people are using the DSL connection in the neighborhood.
