A warm hello to all the mylotters :) since i am new here, let me begin by introducing myself. i am from pakistan and currently doing my training in general surgery. i am an avid surfer and spend most of my spare time surfing the internet on my new macbook. one thing i have found lacking on this ocean of information is access to free medical advice. although there are many sponsored websites giving information about many diseases but there are probably only few that develop a person-to-person relationship while this exchange of information takes place. i have been planning to develop such a website and would like to know your opinions on the subject please. the specific areas i want your advice on are: what all questions and types of questions should be allowed on the website? who else should be there to answer all those questions? what sort of lawsuits should i expect? what do you, as recipients of such information, have to say about the whole idea? any other relevant suggestion? i will be looking forward to your advices/ideas/opinions please...

Hello nabeelimran. Welcome to the community of myLot. Now if I understand you right you want to diagnose illness over the internet right? I personally would not rely on the internet for a diagnosis. I would use it for finding information about an illness or the symptoms but then I would go to my Dr and let him or her give me the final diagnose. With out seeing the patient you might miss something or they may not know what to report to you. I wouldn't use free medical advise from the internet.

i have to agree with you dee... while giving opinions is one thing, the person needing the info should definitely be sure to know that they need to see their doctor in person to give them any kind of diagnosis. :)

Ok now this is something that I would personally discourage too. I did not want to give diagnosis-over-the-air kind of advice but rather those kind of questions which pertain to information about an illness or a surgical procedure. Like the information patients or people are hesitant to talk about in a clinic setting or in a doctor's office, kind of thing.

Hello nabeel welcome to world of mylot !! I see you are a young doctor and trying to help people over the internet by creating a medical website !! I suggest big deal would be to gain people's trust first, so to gain their trust you can write about most common diseases where the person doesn't really require personal attention from a doctor !! As your website grows include the products which can help make tests blood or urine etc !! This I suppose you can get easily from sponsors of your website !!Then after performing tests they should be able to put the data back on site so that you can provide them your feedback !! This is only the start after the website grows bigger, you can ask doctors of particular region to be associated with your website, so that you can refer your patients back to such doctors in case of serious illness !! This would be start and you can make a lot of progress !! Good luck and happy mylotting :)
