(in you school days,) did you notice some characteristic habit of your teachers?

what is it? maybe a teacher used to repeat the same words several times. another teacher used to shake his head unconsciously and without reasons, like an recurrent habit. well, something like that. because my school days were mostly boring, or when i just wanted to have fun, i use to notice the things. in my junior high school, my history teacher use to repeat the same words several time. the word is "katakanlah", means "say". like this: "in the prehistoric ages, say one million years ago, human being used to....." something like that. i noticed it and in an occasion i even counted it . according to my counting, in two hours he said "say" in that way about 40 times . my math teacher had a different habit. he used to recurrently shake his head without reason. it is not turning your head to look at other direction; it is shaking his head in a certain way so that his chin is rise. we students used to secretly laugh when he did that, because in that situation he would look funny and id**t (sorry for that rude word, but it's true ). anyway, what about you? did you notice the similar things? please feel free to share your experiences

I'm going back a long way to remember this (1960-61), but we had a geography teacher who was also CO of the school army cadet corps. He had a bee in his bonnet about the Asian military threat, having fought agaisnt the Japanese in the 2nd world war, and any time we got bored with geography, one of us would ask him about the "yellow peril", and that would be the ned of geography for the day, off he'd go, almost frothing at the mouth lol. Funny thing was, he was a brilliant Latin teacher. I also had a house master (who was also my French teacher) who today I would instantly recognise as being as camp as a row of tents, and he used to finish almost every sentence to you with the phrase, in perfect Oxbridge English, "Ah Dear Boy". But Lord could he cane! Lash

Yeah, I remember some of my teachers in high school who had few mannerism. My 1st year English teacher always flicks her fingers while pointing at someone to either recite or go to the board. I also had a teacher in 3rd year who always include the word "already" in almost all of her sentences. She even adds a different accent to it. She pronounces it as "olreydi". We don't mind most of the time but it really gets annoying at some point. I miss the good old days. Take care my friend.

Oh Yes! We had our physics teacher who used to shake his head as if he had some paralytic attack. Together with this he used to wink his one of the eyes! This used to be very funny for the students. In twekfth standard our maths teacher who was real genious in his subject used to enter the class well dressed with the beatiful neck tie on in proper place. He was so active and involved in the class by the time he finished his period his face used to be with full of Chalk marks, his tucked in shirt would come out from behind and his tie would look like a noose around hisneck and in all he used to look like a clown. But then we students instead of laughing at him, used to admire him for his sincerity and interest with which he used to teach maths to us! My salutations to that Gentleman! There are many things which can be mentioned here as Schooling is a pretty long period of 14 years and we are meet with many teachers during this period with many peculier habits! Thanks ! It was a nice topic of discussion! I liked in participating in it!

shaking head and winking! that's a perfect combination! well, you are right that we are to appreciate a dedicated teacher like your math teacher, instead of making fun of him. it is obvious that he concerned much more about his students and his performance than his external appearance. thanks for sharing your inspiring memory here

He think that all the rats up above the ceiling would like to study about high rise building too. Hhahaha!!!! One teacher at high School, like to mimik President Suharto, to steal his kharisma, he use the word "kan" into : "ken". and he manage to use it a lots! even in the word that doesn't necessary to given "ken". and I said to my self "...E Y D... I am facing the oldies era at his time of teaching, cannot escape on it"

staring at the ceiling?! hahahah. yeah, maybe also the rats was suffering from vertigo and wanted to learn how to get relieved from it. had you ever found out what he was looking at actually? who knows that there is a teleprompter at the ceiling, where he can read whatever he had to teach to you students it meant he are cheating! you should ask him to get out from you class, dian! LOL i have also teachers copycatting mr. soeharto, misspelling the "kan" with "ken". that's really irritating. do they think they will be eligible for being a president by simply misspelling the syllable?

Yeah, I did have professors who had these (some annoying) habits. One young college instructor sweats really profusely in the class (mind you, we have two aircons blasting in every classroom), he has this habit of wiping his face every 20 seconds or so. I don't know if he gets nervous in the class because I'm right in front of him and I ask too many questions, hahaha! Or he's just a plain sweaty person. Then there was this another professor who always starts a sentence with "Ahhh..." or "Uhhhmmm..." like he's having difficulty saying what he's about to say! But, on the top of my list is that professor in my Trigonometry class. He have this habit of speaking to no one. Hahha! Let me clear that one, his eyes were focused at the back of the classroom, no eye contact with his students whatsoever. It was like he's expecting a flying saucer to land anytime at the back of the classroom. My classmates were whispering rude remarks against him but he didn't care, he just kept on talking to the wall as if we don't exist. Sigh!

hi maple_kisses, you seemed to have a great time in your school days the sweating instructor reminds me to my physic teacher, who used to gather some white foam at both his mouth corner it makes us students prefer to look out the windows than look at him LOL. but the professor delivered your trigonometry class is really funny LOL. i think he learned it in his "surviving in the jungle" classes: never have eye contact with a tiger, otherwise he will pounce you hahah...

We have also counted those things....haha The Maths teacher always said "Do you understand?" with a deep low voice. He said about 20 times in an hour as long as I could remember. Seems that every teacher has some unique "habits". Interesting!

This was rather a routine or rhetorical one rather than a genuine question, so we just kept silent and he continued his teaching again.

Yeah, I notice it too. I have a teacher that always say "Ok" when he finish one sentences. So everytime he finish talking one sentence or explanation, he always say "ok". So I become little boring with that word. Another teacher is not from the word he/she say. But from the way he/she explanation. I have one college teacher. He always made explanation with facing the whiteboard. So it look like he talking to the whiteboard not to the students. So I always talk with my other friends when he give the explanation or I will laugh loudly seeing his way to teach. keep post happy myLotting...

hahah, i can imagine how boring the 'ok' is. what's ok? it's not ok if students are bored and yawning in your class. and your teacher facing the whiteboard LOL, that's annoyed yet funny. i think even the whiteboard will be irritated to be looked at in that ways, day to day throughout the year LOL. thanks for sharing it here.

I think every teacher has its habit when inside class. One of my teacher often started the discussion with the word ,you know...lol while others are used to using anak ng pating! lol which means sharks child. I never got bored in school since i have a lot of things to do and friends whom i hang out with. But i still notice that every teacher had its mannerism and different style of teaching.

Oh yeah, I remember my teachers having a unique habit of using a word after each sentence, another one using same phrase over and over again within one hour of lecture. The funny thing was that my classmate and I tally the words repeated and after class compare it. While another classmate would imitate the teacher when suddenly the teacher entered the room and heard and saw the studnt imitator. After that the teacher never uttered the phrase in class but after some days, the teacher is back again in repeating same phrase.

your experiences are funny! did the teacher punished the imitator for made fun of him? and yeah, the teacher being back in repeating the same phrase proved that it's difficult to omit the recurrent habit. i don't know why teachers usually have such habits.
