Do you still pray before eating even if you are in a restaurant?

I pray before eating my meals, only if I'm at our house or my friends house. But, I seldom pray before eating when I'm in a restaurant or public places. I thought that people might think and say I'm corny or something. Sometimes when I realize what I've done I feel bad about it. How about you guys? Do you pray before eating your meal even if you are in a restaurant or some other place? Thanks for reading here. Happy posting!!

hi althegreat, i been practicing praying before meal where ever i am. My meal is not complete if i dont pray. I am not ashame if they see me praying even in public places. I guess if you are a christian you should be proud of what is your belief and your practices, as long it does not disturb anyone by not praying it out loud, there is nothing wrong about that. By the way i have similar discussion of yours, you can check it if you like. happy posting.

well , it is all about habit, If you like praying to God, you dont care where and when did you pray. Even when i was in the public buses or jeepney i still pray, i just do the sign of the cross and start praying in silence until i reach my distination. It is hard for me to do at first but once you do it, it become easier to it again and again. And i know you can do it. Cheers.

Hey there Margarit. It's nice, good, and right. Yeah, shame on me for not praying before eating when I'm in the restaurant or any public places. But, sometimes I do the sign of the cross whenever I'm in a restaurant and then eat. Thanks for sharing. Happy posting!!

definitely yes... i am not embarassed about my God and i don't care if people see me praying to my God in public places... the Bible says that if we are embarassed to acknowledge our God to other people, He will be embarassed to acknowledge us as well when we met Him later in Heaven... take care and have a nice day...

Yes, I whisper a silent but short prayer before eating even if we are in a restaurant. I just like thanking him for the food that is being served at that moment. Cheers!

Well as A Muslim we before we eat we say "In the name of God, The Most Merciful, The Most Beneficent." Stating the only reason we are eating this food is because GOD provided it, nobody else. After we eat we say "Praise Be To God Alone." as a way of thanking God that he provided us with food.

you dont have to be theatrical in giving thanx before a meal in a restaurant, you can still say your prayer without feeling like others are watching you. dont you think yer god can hear yer thoughts regardless?

Hi there! Yeah, I agree with that. Just praying in your mind is enough as long as you are trying to communicate with God and thank him for the blessing. Cheers!

Yes i pray before eating any meal even when i am out. Just the way of my prayer differs, when i am in a public place then i may close my eyes and pray before eating the first bite and when i am at home then i may join my hands and close my eyes and pray for sometime. But in public place it is more or less silently... I think we must thank God for giving us every meal and keeping us healthy, safe and sound to have our healthy meal. Happy myLotting!!!!!

I normally dont pray when we eat.But im trying to stop that habit since i know it is bad. But when were at my inlaws house we always pray before we eat. When it comes to public places i dont pray because other people might find it rude since you are trying to show that you are religious and they are not although that is not your intention. So we dont say a prayer in public places.

Well, I am non-religous and I would not be offended if it was within your beliefs to pray before you eat, so long as you didn't try to get me to do it with you or whatever. As I said in another response, as I understand it you don't have to speak loudly. Even a whisper is enough based on most christian beliefs. So, if you simply bowed your head and whispered something before a meal, I know I wouldn't be offended and people who would be that easily offended are just hateful biggots or insecure in their own beliefs. Not like you're waving a sign through the whole restaurant that says in all caps, pray before your meals or go to hell! or something like that.

Hey there! There's nothing rude with that, praying in public places. Well i believe you should practice and make it a habit that you always pray before eating. Don't you even pray in your mind before eating? That's God's grace you're eating.

Yes of course. I still do pray even if i am in a restaurant. There is no bad in praying anyway so why should we ashamed of praying. Besides that you will influence other people to pray too if they see you doing that. So good for you then in the sight of the Lord.

Interesting question, AltheGreat2430. I think praying before meals wherever you may be having a meal is important for a variety of reasons. First and foremost, I think it is important to acknowledge God's provision and thank Him for it. That is true, to me, in every situation. Another reason it is important, for me, is it sets an example for my children. This is a value I want to instill in them...and they participate by praying for meals at home, themselves. And as far as eating out goes, I understand where you are coming from...I used to feel a little less comfortable than I do now, but you put into practice what you believe. Also, as I say to my oldest daughter, it is important to "show others who you follow." And that is God...or even more specifically, Jesus. And we are told to confess/acknowledge Him before men and He will do the same before God the Father. These are just a few of my personal views. Again, interesting topic. Thanks.

Absolutely!!! The restaurant did not provide the food; the God Who is the Great Provider is the One Who makes it possible for us to have food to eat. I am not embarrassed or reluctant one bit to pray over the food I eat, no matter where I am. (Especially nowdays: people are just plain old nasty!)

Yes I do, and will still do no matter how public the place might be. If we are sincerely thankful for the things that we receive from God, what is there to be ashamed of in thanking Him publicly? Besides, I have heard of a number of testimonies that non-Christians actually become curious when they see Christians pray over their food, and this is actually a good platform to explain about why we pray and also to bring up the issue of Jesus and salvation to them. In addition, if one feels too shy to pray aloud, there's always the option of praying in silence. God hears us regardless of whether we pray aloud or in silence, because He knows what's in our hearts anyway. All in all, I don't really care about what people think if I'm praying before my meals in restaurants, because ultimately this is between me and God, and not about them. Let them think what they want....

My family aren't really ones to pray but My fiance's family is. I myself am religous, and so if I saw someone praying in a restaurant I would not feel offended or think that they were being corny or anything. I would actually admire that they prayed, even though people might ridicule them. Thanking god should never be looked down upon, whether your religious or not.

I am not religious so I don't believe in praying before a meal, and I was even forced to do so when I was a kid in daycare. However, I believe if you are religous and pray before meals at home or with friends, then it is hypocritical not to do it at restaurants as well. You don't have to speak loudly as I know many people that whisper when they pray, but bowing your head and saying a few words would be appropriate I would think, and doesn't take much time. But if you believe in God, and you believe in thanking him for your food, then should you not do it anywhere you go? I know many manyh people who don't do that, but a lot of them don't do it at home anymore either. I dunno if they just say it all in a bedtime prayer or not. I do know that prayer doesn't have to take place at any particular time or for any particular thing, but if it's tradition or whatever to say it before meals, it shouldn't matter where you are. By what you have said, I wouldn't think that you are this way, but the signal that something like that sends is that a person is not very secure in their beliefs, or they would have no quams about something like that. It doesn't effect the people around you, especially if you keep it to yourself. Even if the people you eat with are like me and not religious, I don't think they'd mind if you had a short moment of silence so you could pray or whatever. If they do then they are hateful biggots.

I usually don't pray when I eat. My husband and I feel a little weird doing it if we are by ourselves. If we are eating with family on a special occasion, then everybody prays. That is how we do it and we're pretty both comfortable praying during those special occasions.
