Are you an organ donor?

My stepson died this past weekend. He was 25 and an organ donor. I did some reading about organ donations - one person who donates their organs can help up to 50 people!!! If a person is an organ donor, they can still be buried in an open casket since no incisions are visible as a result of the surgery. So are you an organ donor?? If you are was there a specific reason you became one? If you are not then why not?? Read more here: http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/organ-donation/FL00077

I am an organ donor. This is stated on our driver license here in Minnesota. I also have a donor card on file in my medical records for further assistance when I pass. I did it to help others if possible after I pass. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

I don't understand how you can say no, you will no longer be needing these organs and it is giving people a chance to live a better life or just to live. There is no way to lose in this situation.

i guess you're right.. maybe it's just that i dont really think about dying at this age that i dont consider what happens when i die.. but if it could save other people's lives then i guess there should no way i'll be saying no to it right?

I am very sorry about your stepson. In your time of sorrow, it is so kind of you to be thinking of others. This year I got to thinking about it, and decided to become an organ donor. The idea of being able to help so many people is wonderful.

I am afraid of the complication and i am still healthy right now to be an organ donor. Perhaps at times when i am no longer that healthy and dying then i might think about doing that. It takes a lot of sacrifice and courage to become an organ donor. There is a lot of ways to help and i will most likely donate money than become an organ donor.

Yeah, I'm an organ donor. I signed up to be one back when I first got my driver's license when I was a teenager. The way I see it, we're not going to need our organs once we die. There's countless other people who do need them. So we can either let them go to waste and let no one get them to possibly let a few people die who might have otherwise lived or we can donate them to help people. Personally, I guess I'd rather let people who need whatever it may be get it instead of it not getting any use.

Yes I am an organ donor. I think for the people who are not, they are being selfish. I mean if you can save another life by giving your organs after you have already passed, wouldn't you? I guess people think that if you are an organ donor the doctors won't try as hard to save you because they need your organs. I don't believe that at all.

You are right, imagine if they let people die because they were organ donors...the lawsuits that would come out of that and the number of doctors who would lose their license and/or end up in jail would be frightening.

I'm signed up to be an organ donor, as well. I can understand not being willing to be an organ donor because of religious reasons, but I don't have that barrier. I'm all for anyone using whatever is left of my body, if they can, and intend on donating my body to science after they've harvested what usable parts they can find. I intend on being cremated, anyway, so it's not a big deal. I'm sorry to hear about the loss of your stepson. I'll keep you and your family in my thoughts.

HI debs! First of all, my condolences to you and your family! I am not a donor yet but I'm planning to. I just don't have the time. I hope to get it done this year. I'm pretty healthy and I don't have any vices so I hope to donate a lot of organs. ;D

I'm terribly sorry for your loss. I am an organ donor. I know it sounds terrible, but if I've passed away, I really don't need the organs. Someone else does. I also lost two friends in a car accident right before I got my liscense. For some reason this made me want to make sure that I am an organ donor.

I'm an organ donor; I got my permit at 16 and it came with the little heart. It sort of freaks me out to think about people slicing me open and divvying up my organs, but after the amount of people I've known and spoken to who have lost loved ones because they couldn't get a transplant... or who are themselves on a list... I think it's selfish to not be a donor. I'm also a member of the bone marrow registry, and I'd be a blood donor if I weighed enough that they'd let me. Lol.

I'm an organ donor. I registered with 2 organizations, both here in Israel were I live and in the United States. I hope they do take parts of me. It will be the last good deed I can do for this world.

Sorry to hear about your stepson. I am an organ donor. Once I die, my body is gonzo and I really don't care if someone is slicing and dicing me! Open casket? Personally, that concept is kinda weird to me so I have no intention of having an open casket. There are so many people who need organs so why not be one?
