With Christmas right around the corner are you ready? Are you going to go all out and buy, buy , buy? Or are you more focused on family and the meaning of Christmas. What will you teach your children about Christmas this year? What kind of traditions do you have that will stay with them forever?

I'm not ready for Christmas just yet. I think I'll start thinking about it by the end of November. We've always been a family that overflows the living room with gifts on Christmas Day even if it's just the four of us (the last two years, Boyfriend has joined in). But I don't know if that's going to happen this year. A family member is going to spend Christmas in the Philippines so it'll probably be just a mellow occasion for us who stayed behind. I like to tell everyone not to get me something but that does not work. Last year, I just got everyone a gift or two that they need and then gave them a can of baked goodies that I made myself. But the last few years, Boyfriend and I have gone to three Christmas celebrations - with my family, his mom and then his dad's family.

The shopping is not too stressful just as long as I got a list of my ideas. I actually enjoy just walking by myself, looking for gifts, around that time anyway. It's my brother who's actually going to the Philippines to spend Christmas with our dad. I wish I was going too. But Brother offered his place in San Francisco for us to stay at during that Christmas week and I always love walking around San Francisco especially during the holiday season.

I am really not ready either. It seems to come faster and faster each year. I am sorry your Christmas will be more mellow this year. I hope you will be able to enjoy it minus your loved one. We have house hopping to do to. My husband's parents are divorced and we have to split our time too. That takes up a lot of our holidays. I hope things go well for you! Merry Christmas early. And don't get too stressed shopping in November. Thank you for sharing!

We celebrate the Birth of Christ. On Christmas Eve we have the kids make Birthday cards for Jesus. On Christmas morning we read the Christmas story and have the kids read their cards out loud. All of this before any presents are opened. I love Christmas. It is a great time.

I think that is a great idea! What a way to interact with your kids while teaching them a beautiful lesson. We are in the process of changing our family traditions. We have a very materialistcic family and that creates challenges. Thank you foryour ressponse.

I never spend more than $100 each on the kids for Christmas. Last year I think it was more like $50 or $60 each. They have enough toys. They do not need to get $100's of dollars worth of junk they do not need.

That is great. I think it is better to soend less and teach them a valuable lesson. That is what we are doing this year. We have too many toys and the greandparents are going to take care of that anyway, I am sure. I think you have a great idea and are perfectly right. They don't need a lto fo junk. Besides who winds up cleaning up after the new toys anyway? You and ME! Thank you for responding lilybug.

Yes christmas is right around the corner but i can't feel it now coz everything's gone up! I like going to shop for the decorations but we need to save more money. Having a very nice christmas is not too important as long as there's a spirit of xmas that would be okay and with the whole family. Happy posting.
