Two years ago I built my own computer, i.e. I bought the motherboard, CPU, tower case, audio/video cards, etc. Then put it all together. This is what I ended up with: Intel Pentium 4 3.2Ghz microprocessor, 750GB hard drive, Microsoft wireless keyboard and mouse, Raedon 7000 video card, 19-inch LCD monitor, HP DVD drive and LITE-ON DVD drives. What about you? Would you build your own computer?

I had build many number of computer, when it come to mine, I ended up with the follwing specificatoin. 2.8 Pentium D Processor (It is best for my needs. I don't need any advancedprocessors.) 2 GB RAM 160 GB Harddisk (When I bought my PC 2 years ago, This is only the maximum capacity) Flatron CRT monitor (LCD monitor are somewhat not good when you want to watch movies with family) No video card, as my chipset includes 128 mb card which is enough for day to dy operaions and playing games. One DVD drive. USB kayboard and mouse. I don't want to make extra effort for recharging bateries. It my simple system and I made it on feb 2007.

You have a system that suits your needs and you are happy with it. That's all it takes. You built it yourself for your needs. 'nuff said. I agree with the LCD monitor - it's not the best for viewing DVD movies. Thank you for your response.

Hi, Tenma, I hope you get to enroll the computer class. I learned mainly from reading computer magazines and a few books. I started out in computers 20 years ago with Commodore 64 and 128. I was able to learn pretty much the basics of how a computer works. Ten years ago I got my first Windows based PC - still have and have done a few upgrades. The most RAM I'll be able to install is only 768 MB (3X 256 MB sticks). It has the original 8 GB hard drive plus a 40GB hard drive. The CD-ROM is original along with an HP CD burner drive. The motherboard is outdated, so I can't upgrade too much. I take it from your response you hope to have a career in computers. It definitely is a growing field. My best wishes and hopes that you attain your goal! Thanks for your response!

Yeah, I am actually ^w^ planning to become a program, but I'm interested in allround computer skills. I'm already very skilled in fixing most troublesome computer problems or at least finding their core and reason, and I have a couple of computer certificates, and going to get my third which is for building computers and fixing their hardwares and stuff like that, hopefully soon. In the meantime, am starting to learn how to use Visual Basic to make programs, starting with the C++ language. Starting with small stuff using tutorials and whatnot as a startup ^w^ hopefully can do something much better and on my own as I practice more.. I'm in my last yr of highschool, hope I can find myself a good technological college soon D=

@celticrogue if your motherboard is outdated then get a new one from ebay because 768 mb of ram is no ram and 40gb hard drive is way too small. get a new motherboard and harddrive and if you need help let me know

I prefer building my own, that way I get precisely what I need. I've done it a few times before. It can be a pain, but so worth it in the end. At least it is for me, have you seen the junk they sell on the shelves nowadays?

Yeah, I've seen what they offer nowadays. That's also why I built my own. All of the packages did not have everything that I wanted in a computer system. So, after reading a couple of articles in computer magazines about putting your own system together, I tried and was pretty successful at it. Only downside was the power connection to the motherboard wasn't correct, so I had to go and purchase another power supply with the right connection (3-pin vs 4-pin). Thank you for your response!
