Do you iron everything?

Ironing - Doing the ironing

As I take my washing off the washing line I fold it as I go so there aren't so many creases in the clothing. I usually do my ironing once a week on a Sunday morning whilst my eldest is at rugby practice. There is a fair pile to do but it only consist of my two eldest son's school uniform, 5 t-shirts, 5 shirts, 8 pairs of trousers, 4 jumpers and 2 other t-shirts for my youngest's pre-school, oh and 2 boys brigade t-shirts and jumpers. There might also be the odd shirt or two thrown in from where they have been dressed smart for a birthday party or something. I have know people to iron underwear but I see no point as no one is going to see it and it will get crumpled as soon as it is worn. I don't iron sheets either, too much hassle and I try to fold them before they get creased. What about you? Is there an item you definately won't bother ironing? Is there an item you could never leave un-ironed?

I only iron things as I need them, so when it comes out of the dryer or off the line then I will put it straight away. Then when I need it then I will just iron it before use, I find that so much easier and no big pile of ironing to do all the time!

I always get all the clothes out the night before, and if anything needs ironing do it then. I am ready to go then the next day!

Hi there gemini_rose Sounds like a good idea but if I haven't decided what I am going to wear before I go out I would be annoyed that I had to iron it too before I get ready to go out!! Thanks for your response

I have a standing rule when it comes to ironing, Humbug, never iron anything unless I absolutely have to! I really hate ironing. It probably stems from the fact that I did an awful lot of it when I was a child. Back then we didn't have all of the miracle fibers that are now available so you had to iron practically everything. Since most of my clothes are of the casual variety, I don't need to iron on a regular basis because I simply fold them fresh from the dryer and they are wrinkle-free.

Luckily for me meny of my things don't require that much ironing. I will if I have to, I would rather take the time to get the wrinkles out then to walk around looking like I slept in what i'm wearing.

I only iron what has to be ironed. Not my favorite chore. I hang shirts and slacks up so they aren't wrinkled (right out of the dryer or off the clothes line). But cotton shirts and pants need ironing usually and if something is really wrinkled, then I iron. My mom used to iron EVERYTHING!! Including sheets!! (So, of course, we had to when we were at home, too). Yikes!

I love to iron, I love neat clothes so I'll iron anything. I have been known to iron sheets, it does take a while but when they look good afterwards its worth it. I like to look neat a crisp so I iron everything. I iron my kids clothes but they're little so it doesn't take long at all. Glad to know there is another neat person hanging around myLot.

Good day.. I only iron my clothes that need ironing. I try to save as much as I can in electricity I mean now a days electricity isn't that cheap specially where I came from it's considered a luxury rather than a necessity.

Hey there blackmantra_x Yes it is a must to save on electricity these days and if I had the choice of ironing or going on the internet due to a shortage of electricity then I think the internet would win hands down! Thank you for your response

I hate ironing. It takes up so much of my time and it's not cost-efficient as well when it comes to wattage. So after taking clothes out of the washer, I immediate hang everything to dry. Of course there will be some items that just beg to be ironed. I'll try smoothing out the creases first with my own hands. It works a lot of times which is great. :) Then I'll patiently iron out some pants and clothes that I need to wear for work. Coats that need to be ironed also get ironed because I can wear those more than once so the ironing will be worth it. :)

I don't like to iron so therefore I don't iron anything. If I have an article of clothing that tends to wrinkle then I make sure I take it out of the dryer right away. Problem solved.

i didn't iron my cloth for the most time of my life but now i do and i realize that it is fun and in the mean time i should take some responsibility and help the women of the house and we do washing clothes twice a week and then the women iron almost all on the next morning and not mine as above and i iron mine one night before i need them and mostly it ain't in a rush and i don't bother about ironing the collar as it is hard task and they are already stiff so why waste time.and i don't iron vest or underwear lol good luck!

Hi Humbug, Having run my own ironing business in the past and with staff shortages sometimes I have been known to be up ironing til midnight to complete a customers ironing in time, I can't stand doing it so anything I can get away with not ironing I won't. It is only stuff that looks creased that gets done and my work uniform really, all towels are folded and put away as with linen and underwear. One of my neighbours though being ex-forces even irons socks. Each to there own but I don't really see the point, I have better things to do with my time. Huggles. Ellie :D

my mom used to iron everything. yes including underwear. she said it's good to feel smooth down there. but since i moved out on my own i don't iron that much. only dress shirts and pants, that's it. other stuff i don't bother. i'm a very casual person and all my casual clothing can go unironed.

I only Iron my formals. I have seen people iron their jean pants, but I do not do that. I used to iron my school uniform when I was in school, and now that I'm in college, we are expected to follow a formal dress code, so i iron my clothes for college now. It's a good habit and I like to wear ironed clothes. I see my fellow students come to college without ironing their shirts and pants, and it looks really awkward. bourne

I try to iron as little as possible. I even encourage my hubby to buy crease-free pants as far as possible but he doesn't like those kind. My mother in law irons almost everything, it drives me crazy because she uses so much elctricity and with the increasing tariffs, we are paying more and more for utilities. She irons bedsheets too. Although she falls short of ironing underwear, but Maybe she is secretly doing that too, I don't know. She also irons pajamas, sigh!

Hi there SydneyHazelton Pyjamas? What is the point of that, you are going to bed, even less people are likely to see your pyjamas than your underwear - maybe ooops! Thank you for your response

Hi Humbug, I hate ironing and would only iron working clothes that crease and my hubby's shirts and pants. I don't iron jeans, tshirts, underwear, jumpers, sheets - if I can get away with not ironing anything, I would!

Hi there lazeebee Unfortunately I think there will always be something that will need ironing but I don't do jeans either. I strictly do school uniform and the odd party shirt and that is it! Thanks for your response

Hi Humbug25. I don't iron anything. I hang up what needs hanging and fold other things right after I dry them. Most of the time they are OK but if they do get a little wrinkled, I iron them when needed. My Mom used to iron a lot. I remember helping her with the ironing. She used to iron handkerchiefs and pillow cases lol. I remember sprinkling them with water and rolling them up. She also ironed shirts. She didn't have a steam iron back then so we sprinkled them with water lol. But nowadays, most things don't need ironing.

Hi ya lilcee Unfortunately school uniforms still need ironing these days though you can buy crease-free trousers they are more expensive and I have to iron the shirts anyway so I might as well run the iron over a couple of pairs of trouser while I am at it! Thanks for the response
