Halloween Reading

Every Halloween I try to find a book that gets me into the mood for the season. It's outside of what I normally read, but this year I've stumbled across a really good one. The book is called, The Book of Shadows, written by James Reese. In it, Herculine is reviewing her past, from watching the death of her mother at a young age, to growing up at a convent and her life beyond. Most of the book takes place in France, in the time leading up to, and during the Revolution. It is a very dark and sensory story, reminding me a lot of Anne Rice's style. If you like her books, you will probably like this one too. There are two other books in the series, The Book of Spirits, and The Witchery. I'm just starting the second one now. Are there any books you've read that put you in the mood for the Halloween season?

Wow that book really does sound great...will have to get it from the library. Well I guess the closest to reading a book to get me in the Halloween mood is Wicked: The Life And Times of the Wicked Witch of the West by Gregory Maguire..he writes the story of a sort of "prequel" to the whole Oz story.

Wicked was a great story! I'm glad you wrote, because I always wanted to read more by that author. I must have gotten side tracked, because I never did. Thanks for the reminder, I'm adding that to my list for the next trip to the library!
