Has a cell phone replaced your wrist watch?

I have just read something recently that stated that the sale of wrist watches has gone down drastically. They are accrediting this phenomenon on the usage of cell phones. They claim that most ppl no longer have the need for a watch when their cell phone will give them the time. Personally, I ony carry my cell occasionally (long trips in the car, for emergency) and I never wear a watch either. I had one as a graduation present from my parents when I finished High School. I had to have the stem repaired so many times that I stopped wearing it and never purchased a new one. How about you? Has your wrist-watch gone the way of the dinosaurs? Do you catch the time on your cell or some other means?

Yes, the cell phone has replace my watch and so much better than a watch because it keeps better time. My cell phone will update itself when the time changes and so I no longer have a need for a watch.

Yes, I guess you are proving the story I heard to be correct. By the way, what are you hoping for a miracle for? Thanks:)

I thought maybe it was for something specific. I'm a Christian and I thought you might need some prayer.

i cant really remember the last time i used a wristwatch it is true that most people now use their wrist watch as time pieces and this includes me .i find it more covenient especially because my phone updates itself automatically,it does a lot for me ,music on the move, communication etc

I have a couple of watches but I need to get the batteries replaced so sometimes my cell phone is my watch. I don't think I would ever replace it though. A watch is a fashion statement, an accessory. I doubt you'll ever hear, "Look at my new cell phone" every time you see someone. A watch is a statement, unless Rolex starts making cell phones I think sales will pick up again.

My sister gave me a watch two years ago and I have never wear it. June last she came back and gave me another that is always in my handbag. The thing is that I used my cell phone for time and always forgetting that I have a watch and a clock. I think that the phone is more handy.

Yes, if that is what you've always used to check the time, then I can see that it would be difficult to break that habit Thanks:)

I think i have in a drawer at least 3 wrist watches that i personally consider obsolete pieces of technology. Phones have evolved in very advanced technological works of art, i mean look, with a decent new generation phone you can not only check the time but you can create your own agenda, schedule, you can check your e`mails, comunicate with others through various means, entartain yourself. Why wouldn`t you choose to not have a watch since you can carry a mini pc in your pocket? The only persons who i see still wearing watches are some business men who like to have a more classy and stylish aura, and a watch really helps.

I have both a cell phone and a wristwatch. I do not wear my watch most of the time because of the awful tan line it leave. But even when I am wearing my watch I usually check my phone for the time, even though it is more inconvient to do so. This is a very interesting topic. I've never really thought about it. I don't know why I still wear a watch, I guess it's just habit. Plus, it's a Batman watch and I love to show my support for my favorite superhero.

yes, i think so.. for the mean time!hahaha well, i look at my phone to check the time now.. because my wrist watch is broken. but i'm planning to get a new one. it's always ,ore convenient giving a glimpse through the wrist watch than pulling out the phone everytime you want to check for the time!

It's probably a little less rude or obvious to glance at the watch than pulling out your phone to check, right? Thanks:)

guess you're right.. giving a quick glance on the wrist watch can be very discreet.. but if you pull out your cellphone to look at the time, that's really very obviuos..hehe but the again, if you will act as if you are texting then, the people around would not know that you are just checking the time..hehhe but having a wrist watch is hassle free..

This would especially be true if you were in a business meeting or in the middle of a lecture at school. It would be too obvious. Thanks

I use my cell phone all the time. There may be a clock in front of me, but I will grab for my cell phone first. Go figure. As a matter of fact, I was preaching a few weeks back and I was supposed to end at a certain time. My wife looked at me before I went to the platform and took my phone off my side because she said it looked weird. Needlesstosay I went ever by almost 20 minutes.

I am the same way. I do not always have my cell phone on me or handy. Honestly I never think of looking at it for the time. (maybe I am the dinosaur!!!! :-) So I am still a watch wearer and probably always will be. When I forget my watch when I am working it really irks me, even though the time is right there on the computer. I think it all comes down to (as in most cases) what we are used to or get used to doing!

I LOVE wrist watches. I really do. I stop to look at them all the time when I'm in the department store. But, I've lost every single watch I've ever had, no exception, and I've yet to lose a cell phone, so yes - cell phones have replaced watches for me. Definitely!!!

Not that likely if you take care of it... unless you are often involved in e.g. rugged sports.

Hi ya rocketj1 My mobile certainly has taken the place of wrist watch. I stopped wearing my watch about 2 years ago as it was an item my husband had bought for me and I think it came off around about the same time as the wedding ring!!! I haven't really worn one since, I tried to but it felt uncomfortable and I was forever taking it off because I am always washing dishes and cleaning and it got in the way. As I didn't have a land line for a considerable time the only way people had to contact me was on my mobile so I got used to carrying it everywhere with me and found it was handy to keep an eye on the time with it too.

I like having a land line, if I didn't I wouldn't have access to the internet and I don't always get a signal on my mobile phone but people can always leave a message on my landline for me should they wish to.

I know lots of people around my area who have gone totally to a cell phone and gotten rid of their land lines altogether. We live in a very hilly area and sometimes those friends are hard to reach because reception is sketchy around here. Thanks:)

I have the same idea as you. Since I used my cell phone, I have completedly leaned upon it for time. The screen of my cell phone is large enough to see the time. It is very convinient and accurate. It seems that I have already forgotten the watch to be still existing. And the alarm clock is very useful.

Yes, I haven't worn a watch in years now. I always have my cell phone with me. And since it displays the time I really no longer need to wear a wristwatch. It's funny, but now that I think about it our grandchildren will probably not wear them at all and the will be sitting in museums showing how people used to tell the time before things like cell phones were around. Have a nice day and happy myLotting!!!

It has been about 7 years since I bought my first cell phone in the third year of university.from that on, I haven't put on my watch again expect when taking exams. Pepole today use wrist watch as a decoration most of all. Honestly, I would like to put to my watch again, it is only to make myself remind the past old time.

i always have my mobile and yes i do use it for time but before that i rarely wore a watch anyways so i probably still wouldn't be waring one even if i didn't have it. I keep my mobile with me so that if i have a bad do i can phone for help. Sounds silly but theres nothing worse that being lay on the floor with it just out of reach have tried telepathy it doesn't work for me lol

I prefer my cellphone to tell me the time rather than wrist watch. But during working hour, i have to depends on my wrist watch. If I keep on looking at my cell phone while i was working, I'm sure I'll be call into my boss's office very soon. At home, I'm stick to my cellphone almost all the time, so i used it to tell me the time. Another alternative i have is my computer.

I dunno about you guys but I LOVE watches! And always want to get a new one :P (basically cuz the ones I've got always get ruined fairly quickly but that's not the point _) I don't really think that it is cuz of cell phones, but cuz ppl are just not interested in them anymore. I myself got me a pocket watch, even though you can say this type of watches is as outdated as a grandfather clock I still got it cuz I just love em! it's just a matter of wanting it or not :P that's all

Personally I think that they should put the cell phone in the wrist watch as they did in the Bat Man movies. It seems to me that it would be quite a bit more practical as I am always looking through my clothes pockets to find one of my two cell phones. The watch I have cost about two hundred and fifty dollars and I always like to look at it and if I could use it as a cell phone also this would immensely help me out. That's what I think the future of wrist watches should be. db
