Do you only go to the vet when you notice something is wong with your pet or do you also take them for regular check-ups?

My dogs go in for regular check-ups when their shots are due. I also take them to the vet whenever they are sick or if I feel there is something wrong with me. I think that is the right thing to do as a pet owner.

I go to the vet if something is wrong. If I had a dog or cat, I'd probably go in for yearly check ups because they blood work can be run and all of that good stuff. But all my pets are "exotics" and typically their exam is something I can easily do at home. Although it does help that I've had a lot of experience and I'm a pre-vet student. Not everyone recognizes signs of illness on their own. But unfortunately, with exotics, if you can't notice an illness early it is often too late.

My kitties are my babies, and since I believe in preventative medicine for me, they get it too. We go for a once a year checkup even if nothing seems to be wrong. Cats are experts at hiding illness so better safe than sorry I say--especially since I would love for them to live to be 20 years old.

I only take my pets to the vet when they need it. Where I live there is no major ilnessess such as heart worm or rabies. So I do not even get them shots.

I don't take my pet for regular check-ups as I don't see the point of it when the animal is completely fine. I only take it to the vet when it's sick and I feel suspicious that something is wrong.
