Growing Out Your Hair for Donation

I have donated my hair a couple times already. My hair grows quickly and it grows out fairly easily. Although, it is hard to maintain it and I've already got to the point where I basically have to braid it or there are way too many tangles.
To donate your hair, it needs to be at least a 10 inch pony tail that you send in. I'm trying for a bit over that at minimum. I might even go longer, depending on how well this hair growing out thing goes.
So have you ever grown out your hair for donation?
I find it kind of ironic personally how I feel almost obligated to grow out my hair for the less fortunate people with alopecia (hair loss). Because usually once I cut off the braid a few months later I'll go for really short hair and shave my own head.
If I went bald, I believe I'd just keep my head shaved. But I know for kids especially not everyone likes to get picked on and it is nice that groups provide options for them like wigs.

I think that's such a beautiful thing you are doing! I have never considered growing my hair out for donation, but I have a friend at my sons' school who is doing that. She also shaved her head bald 2 years ago for a cancer fundraising event at the school.

I would totally shave my head bald if it would help. Out here when I've seen that done they take off the ponytail as usual though, and then shave. If it got extra hair donated somehow though, I'd definitely go for it. I generally shave my head every few years anyway so I might as well do it for a cause.
I will look into that for this time and see if there is a way for the group to get the most hair possible.

My hair isn't very thick unfortunately, or it would probably make a better wig. But it says on the website that they combine a bunch of people's hair together to make one wig. So hopefully mine helps a bit.
Luckily for me my hair grows fairly fast though, because I tend to totally go crazy with cutting it really short after it's been pretty long. And then a few weeks later I want to slap myself for being so spontaneous.
